Too much Dean Winchester? No such thing…..

My lovely husband recently bought me the full series of the television show Supernatural. I’ve seen the odd episode over the years, but it’s been wonderful watching commercial free, uninterrupted episodes and confirming that I am 100% Team Dean. Maybe it’s because he just seems so darn tortured and I’ve always been a sucker for a tormented man.

Watching the show had me thinking about T.V heroes. The big screen guys always seem to get the most attention (Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt, Gerard Butler, Zac Efron, Channing Tatum etc) and the small screen boys often get overlooked. So I thought it would be nice to celebrate some of our favourite TV hotties.

Without a doubt Dean Winchester (The uber handsome Jensen Ackles) is currently at the top of my list. He’s handsome, impulsive and cynical and certainly has a way with the ladies. He’s also loyal and brave and would do anything for those he loves. Sigh.

I’m generally more pro-Angel than pro-Spike from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I’ve never understood the Dr McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey) revolution when Dr McSteamy (Eric Dane) was generally only metres away in Grey’s Anatomy. I must admit to liking Dean Cain’s Superman. And in recent weeks Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) from Arrow has got my attention – and since he’s also a brave, tortured man I seem to have something of a pattern happening.

Do you have a favourite TV hero….is he a bad boy or boy next door? Superhero or villain? Is he a tormented man with secrets or an open book?

Leave a suggestion of your favourite TV hero and for a bit of fun I’ll use that name as the hero in one of my upcoming books!

  1. Adore Dean: looks, attitude, emotions. We watch Netflix DVDs, no commercials.

  3. Hi Virginia - yep, those three words say it all. And how much better is anything without commercials? :)

  4. Ah Helen, how can I choose just one? I'd laugh if you got stuck using someone like Gomez Addams for your upcoming hero. Now wouldn't that be fun?

  5. I've never really watched Supernatural (just an odd episode), but I keep thinking I should. Maybe one day I'll try your way and buy a season.

And I'm definitely Team Spike over Team Angel, so how about a hero called Spike? :)

  6. I've not watched Supernatural, Helen. I might have to check out Series 1 next time I'm down at the video store.

My favourite TV crush at the moment is Cleaver Green from Rake--bad boy, tormented, lots of secrets...and with a heart of gold beneath it all. Mind you, the name Cleaver makes me think of an axe-murderer and I expect that's not the tone you'd be aiming for. ;-)

  7. I am on Team Spike. Loved him with Buffy. I do like Arrow - Oliver Quinn. What a body!!! But my favorite is Raylan Givens from Justified. He is my kind of hero.

  8. Ooh Helen - you hit upon one of my favourite topics, TV!!!

So this is where I admit I've never seen more than a few episodes of Supernatural or Buffy...I know, I know. But what can I say, I'm just a contemporary girl at heart and paras aren't my first choice of television.

Richard Armitage was great in Spooks - da..

Loved Damien Lewis both in Life and Homeland

I too am a McSteamy fan although I do get the McDreamy as well. And Karev's quite the
    hottie and hello, Jackson!!

Have quite the crush on the character of Daryl in Walking Dead but they're all covered in blood and guts and brains so much and its so grtty that I find it hard to feel "romantic" about any of them.

I'm also really liking Kevin Bacon's character in The Following as previously discussed here. I think I'm much more a good-guy gal than a dark and tortured gal.

I think a clasic example of that is Friday Night Lights with my love for sweet, shy lovely, nice, virginal Sarancen over bad-boy Riggins. Although I do get the Riggins thing as well - I really do! Also in West Wing, whilst Josh and Sam were the obvious hottie's and I adored them I had a secret crush on Toby because he's soooo noble.

I think I like noble men best!

  9. Doh! Forgot to mention Owen in Grey's as well - I love me a hot red-head.

    Also, very noble!

  11. Hi Rachel - a hero named Spike? LOL. What a great challenge though...

  12. Hi Michelle - Cleaver? LOL. As challenging as Gomez, I think. But I agree that Richard Roxburgh does add a certain something to Cleaver Green.

  13. Hi Tammy - Yes, Raylan Givens! Timothy Oliphant is one of my favourite's and he's so good in Justified. Great suggestion, thanks!

  14. Oh, Helen Lacey, I knew you had good taste! Team Dean for me too. Just love that show and his character is incredibly tortured. Love Cleaver Green too. He's a tortured but funny soul.

I'm a bit of a Criminal Minds fan but can't choose between Hotch, Derek Morgan or Spencer Reid. I enjoy a nerd boy with the muscle (Morgan) and the serious leader (Hotch). It's a nice blend of hero archetypes.

  15. Ooooo I was a mcdreamy girl!
But right now my favourite dream boat is James "Sawyer" Ford from Lost. He's stuck on my wall as I write! Bet you didn't know that was his character's real name!

  17. Hi Amy great suggestions! And I like Owen from Grey's too. I saw Damien Lewis in a creepy role in a movie called An Unfinished Life and it put me off him...must give him a go in Homeland. :)

  18. Hes defo worth another look, Helen, in my completely unbiased opinion :-) Loved Damien in Band of Brothers too!

  19. Hi Cath - yay for another member of Team Dean. Like your other suggestions too! Particularly like the name Spencer. Thanks for the tips :)

  20. Hi Scarlett - oohhh, Sawyer....that's a name I like. I was more of a Matthew Fox fan in Lost, but Sawyer had a certain something. Great suggestion.
