Hot Downunder - a sneak peek!

A couple of our ex-LoveCats (or Cats in the Wild, as we like to call them), Mel Teshco and Tracey O'Hara, are part of a new series of erotic romance being put out by Momentum, so I thought I'd invite along one of our WildCats, Mel Teshco, to tell you about them. Over to Mel...

Thanks so much to the Lovecats for showcasing the first five stories from the Hot Down Under collection, published by  Momentum, the new digital line from Australia’s Pan Macmillan.

These are short, erotic stories that will leave you fanning yourself and wanting more…

The first five stories will be released Nov 1 but this is the first collection of many released over the coming months.

Let me introduce you to the first five…

BENEATH THE LIGHT OF A SILVER MOON

Kristen Treymore isn't living anymore – she's existing.

Trapped in marriage to Jack, an alcoholic who uses his fists to communicate, Kristen has given up her freedom in an attempt to protect his daughter.

When Conrad Doyle, childhood friend and the man whose heart she unwittingly broke, shows up on Kristen's doorstep and offers her a lifeline, she can't refuse.

What she never dreams possible is how much she still wants him—but is that enough to keep them together when terror still beats deep in her heart?

A REAL ONLIFE FANTASY

Can an online fantasy ever become real?

When Condamine connects with Esquire in a chat room, neither expect their mutual pleasure and close friendship will become something far more intimate and real. But when the opportunity to meet Esquire in the flesh comes up will Condamine – Caitlyn, in real life – be bold enough to act out her deepest fantasies, or will she hide away from the world behind the comfortable glare of her computer screen?

ROOM WITH A VIEW

Natalie has watched as the zombie plague devastated civilisation.
Angus had been a miracle. Twenty-three years old and gorgeous he had appeared like Romeo from the pool area and thrown supplies up to her balcony. But now Angus is gone – he has abandoned her, which is probably for the best. She couldn't stand to watch him die too.

Stranded four floors up and fenced in on all sides by the infected, food and water supplies are running as low as Natalie's spirits. A lingering death from starvation seems inevitable.

But then she sees Angus striding for the pool gate with a sawn-off shotgun in his hands. Can he make it past the infected to reach her? And what will it mean if he does?

THE FINAL WISH

Ishari is a djinn – the veritable genie in a bottle.

Her latest master, Caleb Salt, a hot young rock star, has one wish left. The curse of sexual need has nothing to do with the lust she feels for him, but he doesn’t seem to desire her in the same way.

Caleb has used his first two wishes to save his brother. Will he do the same with the last, or will he use it for himself? Either way, once he makes that wish, his erotically sensual genie will be lost to him forever and she’s something he’s just not ready to lose.

A SPORTING CHANCE

In the outback town of Mount Tully, many a man's had to squeeze into a frock after backing the wrong derby cane toad on Australia Day.

But Mount Tully's surliest bartender, Jane Hood, has her steel-capped boots planted firmly on the ground, so there's no way she'd risk her independence to accept a saucy bet from the sexy but bossy pub owner, Luka Belov ... is there?

Thanks for dropping by, Mel. It's great to catch up with out Wild Cats. =)

What do you think of those covers? The Hot Downunder authors will be giving away a prize to one random commenter.

Sunday Smooch

Welcome to another LoveCats DownUnder Sunday Smooch!

Today we have a hot paranormal smooch from Stone-Cold Lover by Ellora's Cave author Mel Teshcho, but first ...

the winner of last week's Sunday Smooch Giveaway is -- Joanne!

Congratulations, Joanne! Can you please contact Wendy Marcus at

wendy (at) wendysmarcus (dot) com

and she'll send you a copy of When One Night Isn't Enough.

And now for today's Sunday Smooch from Stone-Cold Lover by Mel Teshco ...

Book 1 in the Winged and Dangerous series.

Heiress Loretta Shaw is notorious for her loose morals and sexual needs. Trouble is, it’s taken her one too many one-night stands to realize that no man can extinguish the sexual fire she feels toward her guardian, Cray Diamond.

A long-ago curse made Cray immortal—a gargoyle, a guardian, who is impelled to protect a human chosen by the curse. He is imprisoned in stone during daylight hours but dusk returns him to flesh and bone, to carry out his immortal duty.

That Cray can shift between human and living gargoyle at night bothers Loretta not one bit. She’s seen him naked many times and her desire for him—in any shape or form—knows no bounds. She’s tired of his resistance. He’s her gargoyle and she wants him in her bed.

[Set-up: Loretta has had a not-so-secret crush on Cray, the only man--gargoyle-- she's set her sights on and been unable to seduce. As he slumbers the daylight hours away in his gargoyle stone form, she tells him where he can find her once darkness awakens him. This time she'll do whatever it takes to have him notice her...want her.]

He paused on the first veranda step and looked up. The rain eased to a heavy mist as their gazes locked. His eyes glittered. “I can’t give you what you want. I’m under oath to protect you.”

Her lips compressed. One hand clasped the rail beside her. “I don’t want your protection.”

I want you.

“Nevertheless, you need it. And I made a vow if I had to guard someone…had to become close to them, it would never be on an intimate level.”

Her throat went tight. It hurt. But it was his honor as a gargoyle, which he protected, not her own. “And if I release you from that role?”

“Only your father can retract the oath.”

“Then…I’ll convince him.”

He raised a dark brow, a half-smile pulling at his lips. “Even if Lincoln released me, the curse would compel me to find someone else to safeguard.” At her horrified silence he added, “Besides, your dad is more worried than ever about your indiscretions.”

She went down a step, now eye-level to him. The light rain clung to her hair and moistened her skin, glazing droplets of silver over her sleeveless, jade dress. Head high, she forced a serene expression while unclipping the diamond studs holding it together at the front.

“Better to have this one night, than nothing at all,” she whispered. Slipping the dress from her shoulders, she tossed it aside. She wore no underwear beneath. She’d planned her attack. The trick was all in the execution.

Cray stood stock-still. His shadowed expression did little to conceal the flare in his eyes, the tic of a muscle along his tight jaw. But he’d seen her naked plenty of times, and had resisted her even when hunger had scorched his gaze.

Not this time. Please, not this time.

She leaned forward, cradling his face with outspread hands. Her lips merged with his, and she closed her eyes, savoring the bitter-sweet taste.

Emotion swelled as she sunk against him, and she hazily wondered if he could taste her passion, her need, the burning for him that seared her very soul.

Time seemed to slow, to hold its breath. Then everything quickened, double-speed as he groaned and his set mouth softened and opened beneath hers.

Desire hit her like a shock wave, an electric current that sizzled the nerve-endings along her lips and raced through her veins. She gasped, opening her eyes and jerking back her head.

Surely he felt it too?

His veiled stare of frostbitten indifference was no more. His eyes glowed like a flame heated blue, snapping with fierce desire and longing.

Sunday Smooch

Welcome to another LoveCats DownUnder Sunday Smooch!

Today we have a sexy paranormal smooch from Ice-Cold Lover by Ellora's Cave author Mel Tescho, but first ...

the winner of last week's Sunday Smooch Giveaway is -- TashNZ!

Congratulations, Tash! Can you please contact Annie West at

annie (at) annie-west (dot) com

and she'll send you a signed copy of Prince of Scandal.

And now for today's Sunday Smooch from Book Two of the Winged and Dangerous series, Ice-Cold Lover by Mel Teshco ...

Celeste has been having vivid sexual dreams starring Pascal Daniels. The son of a mobster, he is every woman’s most dangerous fantasy. Pascal leads a charmed life and can have any woman he wants, any time he wants her. Celeste is determined to have him—but just once. Because she has a secret she will fight tooth and nail to protect. She is human in every way but one—hideous bat-like wings, a permanent legacy from her once-cursed gargoyle father, Cray.

Pascal is used to attention from women, but he’s looking for someone special. He’s interested in the ice queen, Celeste Diamond. He thinks hers is the perfect female form, one he’d do anything to possess. Pascal has decided it’s way past time to warm up the mysterious, elusive Celeste.

And perhaps he’ll share some secrets of his own.

[Celeste has just left the casino and stepped into the elevator with Pascal, a man she’s wanted long enough already. But before she steps into his bedroom she needs to ensure he’ll never lay eyes on her gargoyle wings...]

Pascal blew out a breath before tunneling a hand through his hair. “I’ve never leashed my desires, never had reason to pledge a woman my commitment. Just as I never gave any lover a reason to believe they were more than a passing diversion.”

He cocked his head to the side and she felt as if all her thoughts were exposed as he studied her with his tiger eyes. “I’m certain you wouldn’t have stepped into my private elevator, come to my penthouse suite with me, if you weren’t ready and willing—”

She stood on tiptoe, leaning forward to slant her lips across his in an action that spoke so much louder than words. She sighed, savoring the fullness of his mouth, the decadent taste of spice and scotch.

With an almost soundless groan, he returned the kiss, deepened it, his skill all too apparent as his tongue skated across her lower lip before sliding inside her mouth with an ease that screamed bedroom prowess.

When his hands spanned her waist, she jerked free, gasping for breath and wishing desperately that she had nothing to hide…nothing to fear. “No,” she uttered. “If we’re intimate tonight, it will be under my conditions, or not at all.”

Pascal’s expression bore no hint of disapproval or surprise, just a fleeting curiosity. “No touching, hmm?”

Her heart fluttered like a moth beating itself against a light bulb. “Something like that.” Gathering her composure, she swept past him, out of the elevator and onto a gleaming expanse of white tiles.

Motion sensors triggered a series of down-lights to illuminate the huge penthouse suite and she shivered under their glare as Pascal followed her, close behind. Even without the clack-clack of her stilettos, she wouldn’t have heard his tread. He moved with the stealth of a predator. Only a fixated awareness of him allowed her to perceive the moment he released her from his sights.
She turned, watching as he strode over to a well-stocked bar. His jacket pulled taut across his broad shoulders as he bent and opened the door to a mini-fridge. Retrieving a chilled bottle of champagne, he uncorked it with deft hands and filled two glasses.

She looked away, suddenly nervous and inexplicably afraid. What had she been thinking? Pascal was a man who took control, shaped his destiny and commanded his lot in life. He was a man who, she had no doubt, yearned to touch, to feel, to caress and possess the woman in his bed.
She swallowed hard. Heaven help her, she wanted to be that woman!

Sunday Smooch

Welcome to another LoveCats DownUnder Sunday Smooch!

Today we have a smooch from Moon Thrall by Mel Teshco, but first...

the winner of last week's Sunday Smooch Giveaway is -- Erin K!

Congratulations, Erin K! Can you please contact Natalie Anderson at

natalie (at) natalie-anderson (dot) com

and she'll send you a copy of Rebel With A Cause.

And now for today's Sunday Smooch from Ellora's Cave e-book Moon Thrall by Mel Teshco...

Elyse Wellston e
scapes from her brutal, violent ex-fiancé to a remote cabin in Australia. Fearing for her life, it makes no sense for her to react the way she does on meeting the enigmatic Dane Maddox.

Only when she d
iscovers he is a werewolf and she is his weren—his mate and a werewolf herself—does she begin to understand the hot, sexual yearning within. No longer does she need to act out a desire she doesn’t feel, Dane is everything she wants.

But will her ex end her happiness, her sexual fulfillment, almost before it begins?

Dane lay watching her with drowsy contemplation. “Hi, sleepy head,” he murmured.

“Hi,” she managed, suddenly shy.

He cupped a hand behind her head and tugged her in close for a kiss. “Thank you.” At her obviously bemused look, he added, “For trusting me.”

“You’re welcome.” She snuggled further into his arms, content to stay put. At least for now. “I only wish I could stay like this forever,” she conceded.

He stroked her head. “And why can’t you?”

She twisted in his embrace and looked into his face, feeling all too serious. “That little secret I said I had—”

“Ah.” His jaw hardened fractionally. “Go on.”

“—it was my fiancée. Was. He’s my ex-fiancée now.” She lifted a hand, letting it drop back to her side as she added, “Only, try telling him that. He’s...he’s a very possessive man.”

Dane’s face remained impassive. He reached for her hand, interlacing her fingers with his and examining her bare ring finger.

“I left my engagement ring behind on my pillow.” She chewed her lower lip. “It belongs in my past, not my future.”

The ring had represented a future bound by sacred vows to love, cherish and uphold. Everything her relationship with Caleb wasn’t. The only vow she felt certain Caleb would have kept was the death do us part.

Looking back, it was so hard to believe that Caleb had been such a rock for her after the death of her parents in a car accident. She’d just turned twenty, and though on the outside she’d put on a brave face, inside her world had spun off its axis.

She’d been an only child, with no one to share her grief. Add the mountain of debt that had been left behind, and she’d been only too grateful to allow Caleb—a man her parents had known for years, but seemed somehow to disapprove of—to take the reins. Trouble was, he’d never handed those reins back to her.

It hadn’t taken her long to see his true colors, hadn’t taken long to understand why her parents had felt

such mistrust toward him. She’d lived in terror of him, too scared to leave him, too scared not to. But after the first time he’d hit her, she’d known there was no future with him, known she’d never marry him.

More than once her refusal to wed had sent Caleb right over the edge.

Dane drifted his thumb over her bare finger, “You had no choice but to leave,” he murmured. “You were compelled to find me.”

“I’m not sure I understand,” she said softly.

“You don’t have to understand.” He turned to her fully, pressing soft kisses onto her brow, the tip of her nose, before finally claiming her mouth until she all but melted into his heat. He drew back to add huskily, “Just follow your instincts, trust in them.”

He moved his body full-length over hers, his weight centered on his forearms and his outspread hands either side of her head. “Now shut up and kiss me,” he said huskily.

She smiled as intoxicated delight sizzled through her womb and spread outwards, her mouth capturing the soft heat of his lips this time until she became lost in everything but the moment.

Moon Thrall will be released in North America on March 2nd. To be in the draw to win a copy, answer the following question! (Please note, Moon Thrall is an e-book.)

What is your favourite movie or book where the heroine is escaping an abusive relationship, and into the arms of the loving hero?

Come back next Sunday, when the winner of today's giveaway will be announced -- and a smooch from The Sentinel Mage by Emily Gee will be posted!

Caturday Fun! Free Reads

For our Caturday pleasure, I thought I'd round up a list of Lovecat free reads. I love free stuff. =)

First we have Nikki Logan's entire book, Their Newborn Gift, available at www.everyonesreading.com. And while you're there, have a look at the other 10 category books for free, including fellow downunders, Kelly Hunter's Sexy Sensation, Exposed: Misbehaving With The Magnate (I *loved* this book) and Carol Marinelli's Medical, Emergency: Wife Lost And Found (which I haven't read, but Carol is fabulous!). Here's the blurb for Nikki's Their Newborn Gift:

Lea Curran was raised in the tough Western Australian Kimberley region. She will do anything to save her four year old daughter's life, even if that means persuading a man she cheated out of one child to give her another so the baby's cord blood can be used to treat its sister.

But sexy ex-rodeo star Reilly Martin isn't interested in just being a sperm donor. The two children are the chance at family he thought he'd lost forever. Lea may only want his genes but for Reilly it's all...or nothing.

Also, if you're a fan of paranormal, Tracey O'Hara (a distant relative of our own Tracie Sommers) has a short story on her website, Dante Rising, which is a prequel to Night's Cold Kiss, but a story on its own. A little taste:

Sixteen years ago — Rural France

ANTOINETTE sat up and rubbed the sleep from her eyes to look around the dark bedroom. She tilted her head and listened carefully for the noise that woke her. The gentle spring rain pitter-pattered against the bedroom window. Her little brother, Nici, breathed soft and steady beside her in a deep sleep. His arms were thrown above his head and he’d kicked the covers of his left leg. She smiled and pulled the quilt up then listened again.

Down the hall her grandmother’s snores rattled through the house. She was used to the sort of snorting gargle the old woman made, so it was doubtful that’s what woke her.

Then it came again—a distinct knocking noise from downstairs.

Someone’s here.

And very soon (to be released Nov 1!), we'll have Mel Teshco's free erotica Discovering Sophia from Ellora's Cave. In the meantime, here's the blurb:

Sofia is a divorcee, struggling to deal with the infidelities of her ex-husband. Then one day she sees a man hitchhiking. A muscular, sexy, younger man with a beautiful ass. Impulsively, she pulls her car to the side of the road and picks up the scrumptious hunk.

Jake is an adventurous guy who believes in living life to its fullest. He lets Sofia know that he thinks she is a beautiful, desirable woman, and he wants her. Jake makes her feel sexy and confident. Sofia just has to get up the nerve to go for it because she suddenly knows just what she needs to do to end all the pain and unhappiness that has consumed her.

I see I have some reading to do!

And to put a big smile on your face for the weekend, I'm posting a clip that answers the age old question once and for all, can a Labrador dance the Merengue?

Spicing it up

I am reading: Editing Tracey O'Hara manuscript
I'm listening to: Best of Fleetwood Mac
I'm watching: The original 1975 series of Survivors
Making me smile: Cat picture below (Sigh!!! Work, work, work - that is me at day job)

Last month Mel Teshco did a blog on Romancing Erotica and it got me thinking – not as a writer but as a reader.

What is it about erotica I enjoy? I’ve seen many erotica writers say that it has to have romantic growth of the characters or it is little more than porn. Well, I’m not sure that I agree with that. I guess that is the difference with erotic romance and erotica.

I am not adverse to reading erotic romance. Some of the best erotic stories I’ve read have a strong romantic story. Denise Rossetti, Meagan Hart, Portia Da Costa and our own Mel come to mind. Their stories give me the nice romantic tug as well as the warm tingly, uh-hmm feeling.

But I don’t necessarily need that romantic pull if is a satisfying read (and NO - I don’t mean in satisfying in that sense - you naughty thing). For me it has to be: well written; explicit but not crude; exciting but not depraved; and ending in a way that makes sense to the story—whether that is a happy ending or not.

There are certain things I don’t want to read about, certain things that challenge my sense of moral ethics. We all have our own boundaries, our own lines we aren’t comfortable about crossing. Someone could blush at a chaste kiss and others are happy to read much more risqué romp. One woman’s trash is another’s treasure so to speak.

My first Spice Brief, TONIGHT MY LOVE was definitely not a romantic read. Those of you that have read it will know what I’m talking about. However, my next Spice Brief, BLAME IT ON THE MOONLIGHT (out in August) is totally a love story. The inspiration for each was different, so the stories flowed differently.

(Thanks Tina Clark for the great Cat pic)

So — if you read erotica — what do you look for in your erotic stories? Is it titillation, fun, excitement, or just good ol’ romance with a touch of spice?

Short and not so Sweet

Reading: Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole
Watching: X Men: The Last Stand
Listening to: Gladiator soundtrack
Making me smile: I’m going on holidays this week!

Thought I’d share some fast facts on the category short stories available from Harlequin:

Fact 1: They’re up to 15,000 words long. About a quarter of the size of a regular category story. The perfect size to fit into a busy day!

Fact 2: They come in three flavours: Nocturne Bites (paranormal), Harlequin Historical Undone (Historical) and Spice Briefs (hot, sexy and a little bit naughty)

Fact 3: They’re only available as eBooks. For non-eBook readers, a great way to dip your toe into eBook waters! For eBook connoisseurs, they’re available from all major eBook retailers for download to just about any device.

Fact 4: Sometimes these stories are standalones and sometimes they continue on stories and series from their sister lines Nocturne, Harlequin Historical and Spice.

Fact 5: The fabulous Mel Teshco has a Nocturne Bites out right now, HER DARK LORD and I’m super excited as my Bites, HUNTER'S SURRENDER will be out in three days!

Writing for Nocturne Bites, we can tell you it’s a line where the editors are looking for strong sensual, fantasy and danger elements, a fast paced paranormal novella with a great hook. They also like to see an alpha male entranced by the heroine, with a mission orientated story and a complex world.

Here are the blurbs and some short snippets:

HUNTER'S SURRENDER by Anna Hackett

Vampire hunter Rand Wilder hated vampires—even if they were as beautiful and alluring as vampire princess Dominique Valois. For years he fought the beings who had killed his father, resisting their dangerous sensuality. Yet even Rand was tempted by the intoxicating Dominique and her shocking offer: to hurt the vampire court by taking her virginity....

A desperate need to ruin her reputation had forced Dominique to seek out the hunter known as The Darkness. But she hadn't expected Rand to be so captivating and compassionate.... Soon a very different sort of need drove her desire to take Rand to her bed. And with Dominique's survival depending on it, she would have to use all her skills of seduction to make this strong hunter surrender to passion....

That luscious mouth moved like a whisper over Rand's, small nipping bites that teased, barely giving him a taste of her.

But what grabbed at him was the trace of hesitancy. Like Dominique hadn’t kissed many men.

The thought fired through him. Emotions—hot, rich emotions—stormed through him and riding the wave was the strongest desire he’d felt.

It’d been so long since he’d felt pleasure, enjoyed anything other than killing. It’d been far too long since he’d held another against him. He needed to taste her.

HER DARK LORD by Mel Teshco

When dhampir Kia Montana takes a man home, she isn't looking for names or a relationship—she only wants someone who could satisfy her lust for both sex and blood. But Kia's new mission is to find Sean Maximillus, Lord Vampire and the lone being capable of curing Kia's mother. Kia thought she found the key to success with Ronan, a mysterious man who promises to take her to Maximillus...and who shares a carnal passion with Kia even bloodlust couldn't match.

But Ronan also seems to know too much about Kia...things she never told him. And as she is drawn deeper into Ronan's world, he reveals secrets that will change Kia's life forever....

It took all of her will power to remain still, to not react and stay passive under his passionate mouth that so effortlessly claimed hers.

His head reared back, his eyes burning like hot coals. “Dios. You cannot fight against your blood instincts.”

“Maybe not, But I’ll sure have fun trying,” she hissed.

His eyes glazed red, and she realized her challenge had sent him over the edge. She smiled, her fangs pushing against her gums until they burned and ached while she fought, and won, control over her physical response.

Her downfall would be on her terms, not his.

For the chance to win some vampire Bites, please check our blogs (Anna's Blog and Mel's Blog). We're giving away a free Bites every week through the end of April to celebrate our releases!

Mel Teshco's HER DARK LORD release

Today I am talking with the very talented Mel Teshco on the eve of her debut HER DARK LORD with Silhouette Nocturne Bites

Tracie: Mel since you are a member of LoveCats and my friend - I'd just like to say how excited I am to interview you today.

Mel:
Awww thanks sweety!! *kiss* I'm excited to be interviewed by such a rising star!

*clink glasses – Mel with Midori Splice, Tracie with Margarita*

Tracie:
Your debut HER DARK LORD is out with Silhouette Nocturne Bites in a few days *squees* - what was it about Harlequin M&B that made you target them?

Mel:
OMG a hard one right off the bat! *laughing* - I love alpha heroes, I love paranormal and combined with the fact M&B has a sterling reputation there was no negatives in going with them
.

Tracie:
Mel, you have a young daughter - does writing short help you spend more time with her?

Mel: most definitely. I have a rather short memory span *grins* and quite a few manuscripts on the go at once, the shorter format helps me to focus on the ms at what is mostly snatches of time during the day.

Tracie: You also have older daughters - what do they think of their mum writing some really hot and heavy stuff?

Mel: *laughs* Miss almost twelve is proud as punch and quite happy to spread the news around school - but then she is a huge paranormal reader too. Miss almost 20 is pretty blasé about the whole thing, but secretly proud I think - though she probably hopes the hot stuff isn't from my personal experience.

Tracie:
Your writing style is very visual - do you find yourself looking at things differently now - taking it in for your writing?

Mel: honestly not really. I think my visual way of writing is just from my seeing it like a movie in my head... I try and create different visuals by incorporating other senses. I can spend ten minutes mulling over a few words *groan*

Tracie:
Tell us what you love about Ronan - your yummy hero in HER DARK LORD.

Mel:
Ronan – he’s the ultimate dark hero, the man totally in love with the heroine who'd do anything to get her and keep her.

Tracie:
Kia is a strong and confident woman comfortable with her sexuality - do you like strong heroines in books you read?

Mel:
very much! And I adore heroines who are not afraid of their sexuality. They still have morals but they're not hiding behind feminine wiles.

Tracie:
Kia is definitely in that category. Okay Mel, one final question. What are you working on now and do you have anything else coming out soon?

Mel:
I'm just finishing off ICE COLD LOVER -- the sequel to my Ellora’s Cave novella STONE COLD LOVER -- and tearing my hair out a little with this one. It will be submitted in the next few hours actually. And I have KALLIE REVEALED coming out soon with Ellora's Cave - a contemporary story about a stripper living her fantasy.

Tracie:
Thanks for talking to me, Mel. I wish you well with your release of Her Dark Lord – which is out March first with Silhouette Nocturne Bites

Mel:
Thanks so much Tracie, it was a pleasure!

Here is a Blurb for HER DARK LORD - Available now for Pre-Order
