What I'm Loving Right Now

Apart from Easter chocolate, especially these lush handmade beauties from Winnow Chocolates, I'm loving the sync between Kindle and Audible versions of my reading. 

I read most often on Kindle but I hosted a family get-together for Easter -- a lazy lunch for 44 -- which involved considerable preparation. Much house-cleaning, gardening, cooking in advance, and some painting: a project low on my To-Do list until the influx of visitors. 

We all agree that the only way to clean is with an audiobook in your ears, am I right?  

So, over the past weeks I've heard a lot of hours of book narration BUT for my night reading I prefer the Kindle. I can read faster and I tire of wearing earphones which cut me off from other conversations. My dh tires of repeating questions/comments when, eyes glazed and mind deep in storyland, I lift an earphone and murmur "Were you talking to me?"

This is the beauty of whispersync between the 2 versions and I am a fan. I only wish this facility was more widely and consistently available. Even within popular series it is not always available. I've been binging on two series: CJ Box's Joe Pickett series (suspense/thrillers set in the Wyoming/Montana Rockies) and a re-read of JD Robb's In Death series (I'd missed too many over too long to pick up again without revisiting.) 

BUT not all books are whispersync for voice ready.  Annoying but since the Easter clean is over I can return to my Kindle knowing that next major clean will be made bearable thanks to the beauty of audible books which sync with my Kindle.

When it all goes wrong.

I've had one of those weeks I'd rather forget. Apart from the fact I got tricked on April Fool's Day, I missed a really important meeting, I didn't reach my word count for two days in a row, and my kids started laughing hysterically when I sang the words to one of my favourites songs on the radio. The reason they laughed wasn't because I was off key....at least I don't think I was.. it was because they said I had the lyrics completely, ridiculously, tragically wrong.

Has that ever happened to you? You've sung a song a hundred and fifty times, matching the lyrics word for word, only to suddenly realize you'd got it terribly, terribly wrong? The song I was singing was Macy Gray's "I Try" which I've always loved, and for some inexplicable reason thought she said "I wore goggles when you were not here."

And then it got me thinking about all those other weird lyrics that never seemed to make any sense. I always did wonder why, in "The Police" song it was "a year since I broke my nose". Can you hear it?  http://www.tubechop.com/watch/5621351

The kids were laughing uproariously at this point and so I started to really worry that I'd been mishearing every lyric of every song. Bon Jovi came on the radio and I suddenly wondered if they were saying "it doesn't make a difference if we're naked or not": http://www.tubechop.com/watch/5621361

HAPPY EASTER!!!

So it's Good Friday - I'm alone in the house (my family have gone on a mission up to Christchurch to take care of some quake related biz) and I'm here with my manuscript and some (but no doubt not enough) chocolate. My fault, you see for the second year in a row I forgot to do the Easter shopping sooner rather than later so when I finally made it to the supermarket, it was to find most of the egg range had sold out. 

Bad bunny!!!


However, I did gather up a few million of those mini-marshmallow things so hopefully when small children return, the bunny will have hidden a few about the house...


And - despite the revisions and deadline I'm under - there's no risk of my scoffing the bunny stash - for my new personal favourite chocolate is New Zealand made Whittaker's Ghana Peppermint - with 72% cocoa. I had some for breakfast this morning as I missed out on the Hot Cross Buns too (they'd completely sold out).


But of course Easter isn't all about eggs and eating now is it?! Well, actually for some it might be, for others it is a time of huge religious significance and reflection, for others it's just really nice to have a few days holiday... This year for me, it's a time to get the book finished.


 No matter what Easter means for you, I do hope you have a lovely few days, that you maybe get to spend some quality time with family and/or friends and that if you're traveling you have safe, happy and fun journeys! And if you're alone, like I currently am, then I really hope you have a FABULOUS book to curl up with and enjoy!!!!
