I'm leaving today... (it's a good thing you guys can't hear me, to be honest. My Frank Sinatra impressions leave a lot to be desired!)

So, today I head out to New York for about a week of  research and sightseeing, and then the Romance Writers of America conference! I'm so excited!

So far we have some very interesting things planned for our stay and I'm really looking forward to meeting with readers, other authors who I only get to see if I travel to the US and my editors! In fact, I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking forward to the most.

I find I rarely allow myself enough time to get excited about travelling--partly because I slam my deadlines right up to the day before I'm leaving--but this year I've spaced things out a little better and each night I'm going to sleep and counting the nights until we hop on that plane and the butterflies in my tummy are very much like the fireworks in the photo on this post, LOL! So, yeah, this time around I'm getting super excited! It's going to be great.

Have you been to New York? If so, what's your favourite thing to do or see there--what would you recommend to a New York virgin? And, if you haven't been to New York, what would you most like to see or do there? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

  1. I'll be joining you in 6!!! days, Yvonne. I'm on my own countdown if you couldn't already tell :-)

Hmmm, what must a NYC virgin do....buy a 3 days pass on those hop on/hop off sightseeing buses. It's a great way to hit all the "biggies" but also the commentary on them is really great. Actual "real" New Yorkers doing the commentary (not an audio) and we found each and everyone to be great. They weren't all scripted and each person seemed to talk about a different aspect of New York depending on what their thing was. One lady talked to us about all the different architecture. Another guy was a verteran so we saw New York through that lens - I highly recommend it!

Also, and its not a sightseeing thing but definitely order a Reuben at a restaurant/diner whatever! First time I ever tried one was in NY and I'm a convert. Am dying to have one when I get there! IN 6 DAYS!!!

  2. How incredibly exciting, Yvonne. I love New York and have been there a number of times for work and for pleasure. As to what to do...everything! Definitely see a show on Broadway. Looks like Chicago is on at the moment - that would be a great one to see. Have a blast!

  3. Oh Yvonne I am sure you are going to have a great time :)

I am a New York virgin LOL but my youngest daughter was there last year and loved it and there are so many things that I want to see and Central Park is on the top of the list :)

    Have Fun

  4. I've never been to NY, but would love to go. I know there are plenty of places I'd like to go there but there's too many to even try and remember them let alone list them all.
I hope the flight went well... guessing that you are probably in the middle of the crazy long flight that we Kiwis experience traveling just about anywhere except Aus.

  5. So exciting! I leave on Saturday, so I'll see you there :)

I really loved Chelsea and the High Line when I went to NYC a few months ago. It's such a pretty area and has a great vibe. You can wander around the undercover market, there's so much wonderful food there and great shopping. highly recommend!

  6. NY is on my bucket list, Yvonne. We should've gone while my husband's brother lived there but at the time we didn' thave the time or the money. Sigh. Have a wonderful time.
