A new addition......

I absolutely, categorically adore my pets. My hubby and I have two cats, three dogs and several horses. And a couple of weeks ago we adopted another horse. Her name is Roxy and she's just beautiful.

After an unsuccessful stint as a racehorse, due to injury, she's now part our of little herd.

Along with my 30 year old golden girl Sharnah ......

And my beautiful boy Zeb......

As for the dogs.....here they are, keeping hubby company as he works on his car restoration project (He is restoring an old Holden FJ ute)

As for the cats.....here's Candy doing what she does best.....sleeping.

And Oscar, doing what he does best.....tormenting the dogs.

Over the years I've other additions.....a bird named Curly, a mini pony called Chloe, a house cow named Ginger, a pair of goats called Milly and Billy, a duck called Doc (That I used to take for a walk on a lead) And a list of other dogs and cats that are now at rainbow bridge.

I haven't had a Lama, a miniature donkey or a pig yet.....but who knows what the future holds?

Do you have a hankering for a certain kind of pet? A poodle? A pony? A python?

Oh, and here's a another picture of Boss....the most awesome dog ever.

  1. Helen, your Roxy is beautiful! In fact, all of your furry friends are beautiful. I have a big hankering to come spend a week at your place. :-)

A secret part of me has never really given up on the idea of having my own horse one day...and I had the most gorgeous angora goat when I was teenager so I'd not be unhappy if another goat featured in my future. Mind you, I'm not sure suburbia is cut out for horses and goats so I might just have to make do with a dog. :-)

I've always thought having a Llama or alpaca would be cool. I also LOVE Dachshunds!! They're the cutest little things.

  6. It looks like Roxy landed on all four hooves when she was added to your herd, Helen. What a fabulous menagerie! I have a very soft spot for horses and dogs. Though we did baby-sit 4 miniature goats for a friend and they were awesome - as soon as we'd open the back door there'd be these frantic little bleats. They were always ready for a bottle. Little tummies on legs!

  7. Helen, what a happy herd! You must enjoy that large family of yours.

For several years now I've hankered after a pet rabbit - one that would like to participate in those rabbit jumping events where they scamper down a track (while on a lead) and hop over hurdles. The combination of fur and talent is so appealing. I think they'd be great company on these winter days too. Mainly though, I'm a dog person.

  8. Love your family, Helen. They must keep you busy as.
Me, I'm a dog lover, end of. But at the moment we have an empty kennel because we're just not home enough for a four legged friend.

    1. Hi Sue - yes, they do keep us busy, but I love spending time with them. and I think an empty kennel is best if there's no one home at the moment :)

  9. Loved meeting your family, Helen. I would definitely have a soft spot for Boss (that face!) and for your beautiful golden mare (how lucky she is to be in your care) and that torment Oscar. Gotta love his 'tude.

I've always, always wanted a cat because of that attitude (and the purring) but I made the mistake(!) of falling in love with a badge-wearing member of the dog fraternity -- don't get me wrong, I love dogs and grew up in a "dog family" -- but he truly does not like cats and so I've never had one. Nothing exotic, just a plain old garden variety cat.
