Favourite Reads of 2014?

As another year draws to a close, I've found myself looking back at some of my favourite reads of 2014. They've been a diverse bunch, and far too long to list here, but I'm going to give you a bit of a peek into my list, and hope you'll do the same for me in the comments.

So, in no particular order, here are a few of my favourite books from this year's reading list:

No More Mr Nice Guy, by Amy Andrews
This book hit the USA Today bestseller list, and I know why - it was steaming hot, heaps of fun, and gorgeously sweet. Loved it!

Lead, by Kylie Scott
I could have put any book in the Stage Dive series on this list, but I read Lead most recently, so I've gone with that one. If you haven't read this series yet, grab a copy of Lick!

The Honeymoon Trap, by Kelly Hunter
Eli and Zooey had me entertained from the start (where they get married as part of an online role playing game), to the end (where they... nope! No spoilers!).

The Bouquet List, by Barbara DeLeo
This one was delicious! Yasmin was such fun to spend time with (sock sliding!), and I developed quite a crush on Lane (buttoned-up and seriously hot).

Full Measures, by Rebecca Yarros
This book had me turning the pages as fast as I could! Deeply emotional as well as a sigh-worthy hero.

An Accidental Goddess, by Linnea Sinclair
Loved everything about this book - the characters, the story, the world they were in, everything!

Deeper, by Robin York
This is the first book in Caroline and West's story, but it stands alone. I loved that it tackled a serious topic (Caroline's ex posts explicit pictures of her online as revenge), but it was the tortured, gorgeous West who kept me reading after my bedtime.

There were lots and lots more that I loved, but, as I said, this was a little taste of my favourites list.

So, what books have you enjoyed in 2014? I'm ready to stock up for 2015, so don't be shy in sharing!

    1. Stefanie, Deeper was really intense! Robin York is a pen name for Ruthie Knox, who I've heard good things about. In fact, I have one of her Loveswept books on my kindle that I should get around to reading.

    2. I read my first Ruthie Knox this year, Rach and it was one of the best books I've read all year! I had Robin York recommended to me only yesterday so it looks like the universe is telling me something :-)

    3. Amy, I really need to read the RK on my kindle. The problem is there are so many there waiting for me!

    4. Oh, I didn't know RY was a pen name for RK! Have to get me a copy of Deeper.

    5. Barbara, RY is her New Adult novels, and I think these might be a bit more angsty than her RK books. But once I read the RKs on my kindle, I'll be in a better position to comment on that!

    6. I had no idea that was a pen name for Ruthie Knox! I've heard great things about her writing and have been meaning to pick up one of her books for ages. Even more reason to do it now :)

    7. I have Ruthie Knox's Along Came Trouble here to read. It looks fab. :-) I've heard so many good things about her.

    1. Helen, what a fabulous list of books! There are some there I've already read, but others that are *clearly* calling my name and asking me to buy them. :)

Thanks for sharing all those titles!

    2. Aw...so please my Road Trip made your list Helen!

  3. Uh oh... I can see today's comments will be dangerous to the already crazy length of my to-read list.
You've already got two of my favourites on your list:
Amy Andrew's NMMNG and Barbara Deleo's The Bouquet List. I can also add your Cover Story and Stefanie's Only the Brave Try Ballet to the list without thinking.
However, I need to go through my Goodreads to figure out what else was a favourite this year. Be back later to add to my list. I'm actually in the process of sorting through what I have in my collection, what's been read, what needs to be read, what I want to read and what I want to buy at the moment. With just under 900 books on the ereader and an overflowing bookshelf, I kind of can't keep track anymore.

    1. Lyn, I know what you mean! I started this post, then thought, what am I doing? Like I need more books? But then I saw reason - I *always* need more books! :)

Aw, thanks for adding Cover Story to the list. :) Glad to hear you enjoyed Amy and Barb's books - they were both so fun and heartwarming, but in different ways. :)

Oh, Stefanie's ballet book! I keep meaning to grab a copy but for some reason I haven't yet (knowing me, I probably get distracted...). Thanks for the reminder - I'll grab it now.

Looking forward to your other recommendations!

    3. Ok, so others that were favourites from this year are:
      Louisa's Enemies with Benefits
      The Summer of Jake
      Michelle's Her Irresistible Protector
Michelle's The Rebel and the Heiress

A couple of series that are automatic buy and reads for me are:
Vivian Arend's Six Pack Ranch (and it's Thompsons & Sons spinoff)
      Lia Davis' Ashwood Falls

    4. Lyn, so many more lovely titles for me to explore - thank you! I love Michelle and Louisa's books too, and those series are new to me, so I'll check them out.

And especially thank you for adding in The Summer of Jake. :)

    5. Ooh, you have my Wild Ones duet on your list, Lyn! So glad you enjoyed them as I had a ball writing them. :-)

  4. Hi Rachel. Lovely of you to have compiled a favourite list. My mind is such a fog as I look towards the end of the book I'm writing that asking me to recall what I read 10 months ago is too much to ask. I can tell you I had a wonderful time recently reading some Loretta Chase historical romances and a Martin Walker mystery set in France, complete with delicious food. Following that theme there was Cathryn Hein's fabbo 'The French Prize'. Now I feel guilty. I need to visit my bookshelves and make a list of the best of the best of this year's romances in particular. When I get this wip finished...

    1. Oooh, when you're done with the wip, I'd love to know what the Loretta Chase novels were, Annie! Mr Impossible is probably one of my top 10 favourites ever and I've been thinking lately I'd like to read her latest couple of books.

Oh, and The French Prize! I keep meaning to grab that one! I'll add it to my list (which is getting longer each comment...). :)

  5. Thanks Rach (and Lyn!) for mentioning No More Mr Nice Guy!
I've actually made a concerted effort to read more this year and have read some absolutely fab books!
    I've loved -
    Wendy Marcus's The V Spot.
    Ainslie Paton's Unsuitable.
Ros Baxter's The Seek and Lingerie for Felons (yes I know she's my sister but oh my....I love those books).
    Also loved The Honeymoon Trap.
Have loved all Laura Kaye's Hard Ink series and Kylie Scott's Stage Dive series.
I read my first Victoria Dahls which I really loved (Fanning The Flames was fab)
I read a great M/M called Semper Fi.
The Best Medicine by Tracy Brogan was great.
    Everything Sarah Mayberry put out!
And much to my sruprise I read The Flame and the Flower by Woodiwiss and even liked it despite the dubious consent issues.....

Here's to more great books in 2015! :-)

    1. So many in common, Amy! Yes to loving Sarah Mayberry books and Victoria Dahl books (though I haven't read Fanning The Flames, so I'll go check that one out now). I don't think I read one from either author this year, though, or they would have been on the list.

But you also have a few there I haven't read and must grab. I'll start with the Ros Baxters. :)

  6. I loved seeing your list, Rachel and thanks so much for mentioning TBL! I loved Lick but haven't read Lead yet and No More Mister Nice Guy and Only the Brave Try Ballet are both near the top of my TBR pile. I absolutely loved your The Sumer of Jake and Louisa's Enemies with Benefits. My main problem is that I always hear about books that sound amazing and then by the time I go to buy them have forgotten the title. Thank goodness for lists like yours to jog my memory!

    1. Hey, thanks for mentioning The Summer of Jake, Barb! And also for mentioning Enemies With Benefits - I remember at the time thinking that one sounded great, but had forgotten all about it. Must grab a copy now while I think of it!

Re: Lead, you'll want to read Play first - it's the drummer's story and is muchly fun.

  7. Great list, Rachel! Thanks for sharing! I've got some of these on my etbr and now I've got more to add - and even more after reading the comments! I predict some fabulous reading time in my New Year!

    1. Sharon, my New Year is looking much the same - full of lovely new books to read. Bring on 2015! :)

  8. Well now, what a very nice list you have there, Rach! Some of those are on my TBR pile...and another couple look as if they might make it there now too. ;-)

My favourite romance this year wasn't written in 2014--Susan Elizabeth Phillips' Nobody's Baby But Mine. I also loved Jenny Crusie's Tell Me Lies, Lick by Kylie Scott, and It happened One Wedding by Julie James. Now, though, I'm dying to hunker down with your Cover Story and Annie's The Rebel's Bargain.

Sigh. So many books, so little time. :-)

    1. Michelle, I love SEP! And JC's Tell Me Lies was a reread for me in 2014 too, interestingly enough. :) I've read a couple of Julie James books and liked them, so I must grab a copy of It Happened One Wedding. Thanks for the tip!
