And now for today's Sunday Smooch from The Midwife's Son

Juggling her career and her adorable little son Nicholas, midwife Jessica has no time for men! Yet when hot-shot international doctor Jackson Wilson sweeps her off her feet at a wedding Jess can't resist spending the night with the dishy doc! Jackson's only in Golden Bay temporarily, but Jess soon begins to dream of so much more.

Coming Soon: June

Scene set-up
At the wedding Jess has been drinking quite a lot of champagne and is joined at her table by the bride's brother, who produces another bottle of the delicious bubbles. They haven't seen each other for fourteen years and are happy to catch up on each other's news, but soon the champagne is working its magic and they have left for Jess's house and privacy.

Smooch  -

Jess didn’t bother with lights. ‘There’s enough light from the full moon to see what we need to see. The rest we can do by touch.’ Her laughter was soft and warm, touching him in a way none of the sophisticated women he’d bedded had. Was this shy Jessica? Or fun Jessica?

‘Where are the glasses?’ he asked as he popped the cork on the champagne.

‘Come with me.’ She reached for his hand. Being tugged through the small house by this gorgeous woman with only moonlight to see by was a breath-taking experience, heightening his senses—and his growing need for her.

Jess’s slim outline with those just-right curves was outlined by her gown. Her backside shaped the fabric to perfection, her hips flared the almost skin-tight skirt subtly. ‘How are you going to get out of that dress?’

They’d reached the kitchen, where she removed two champagne glasses from a cupboard and handed them to him. Her mouth curved into a delicious, cat-like smile. ‘That’s your job.’

Give me strength. He wouldn’t last the distance. ‘Right.’

Just then she turned, pressed up against him, her thighs pushing against his, her lush breasts squashed against the hard wall of his chest. Her hands slid around his neck and pulled his head down so her mouth covered his. His pulse went from normal to a thousand in a flash. Wrapping his free arm around her, he hauled her close.

‘Gawd, Jess. Keep this up and we’ll be over before we’ve started.’

Her mouth pulled back barely enough for her to reply, ‘And your problem is?’

‘Why did we stop to get glasses?’ His lips claimed hers again. She tasted sweet, exciting, sexy. She tasted of what he so badly needed right now. Of freedom and oblivion. Of recovery.

What is your favourite wine? Mine is definitely champagne, and not just at special occasions.

Come back next Sunday, when the winner of today's giveaway will be announced and a smooch from Amy Andrew's 200 Harley St: The Tortured Hero will be posted!

  1. Ooh, I love a woman who knows what she wants, Sue! Fab excerpt. ;-)

And count me in for bubbles too. French of course -- for both special occasions and just whenever the mood hits. :-)

    1. Yes, Michelle, definitely French if possible. But I'm a bubbles slut, I'll drink most except the really bad ones.

    1. Hi Helen, I haven't tried Moscato but now it is on the list. We've just had a bubbles lunch with our daughter and friends for her birthday. Very good.

  3. I love this kiss, Sue, because the woman pounces on the guy. LOL

I don't drink much wine, but I do like a sweeter white, preferably with bubbles. ;)

  6. Sizzling extract, Sue. She'll need those bubbles to quench the flames! I'm a Pinot Noir girl for 'normal' occasions, but it's definitely bubbles for the special moments. I have a special bottle of Moet (I know!) chilling for Tuesday - a 'significant' day for me - which was gifted to us for our 40th wedding anniversary just in March. Anticipation and all that... :-)

  7. Super Smooch, Sue! I'm partial to a nice Cabinet Sauvignon. Sadly, champagne takes me straight to a hangover without a by-your-leave!

  8. About ten years ago, my family was hosting our annual "wine party" for neighbours and family (as I win several bottles of homemade wine at our annual badminton club championships). I hadn't had breakfast/lunch, as I was still in "prep mode" for our 2 pm party. At 12:30, my brother arrived early, so I had 1.5 glasses of white wine on an empty stomach (while continuing with the "prep work"). After that, I had 1.5 glasses of rosé wine. At 3 pm, I had a glass of red wine. My brother was leaving, so I walked out to his car with him - and promptly stumbled in my ditch (but remained vertical). I came in my house and projectile vomited across my dining room. My sis-in-law (who was quite accustomed to drinking) quickly whisked me off to bed by 3:30 pm, and I missed my party - dry heaving until 9 pm, when the party was finished and I could have my husband make me some toast. Since that time, when I get red wine about 6" from my nose, I will vomit instantly. I seem to be fine with white and haven't tried rosé yet (I can only win red and white wines now). I continue to win several bottles of wine each year, but not only do I let others drink it, but now I ensure that I eat a late breakfast and hopefully lunch too before the guests arrive. Live and learn....

  11. Congratulations, Tammy. Enjoy.

There are a lot of wines I like. I don't care much for dry wines. White Zinfandel, Asti Spumante, Riesling, and Highland Red put out by one of our local wineries.

    1. Dry whites are my favourite after bubbles. It was hard in Italy last year as they drink a lot of sweeter wines.
