Ever fancied an escape to an island hideaway? How about a trip
to exotic Greece? I confess I’ve been dreaming of both lately.
You’ve all heard how we authors work alone, hunched over our
computers, cut off from the world.
Well, OK, I know some who write in their
local café! But generally we spend solitary hours locked away indoors, living
life vicariously through our characters. Is it any wonder we sometimes dream of
wonderful locations for those characters?
So today I’m taking you to one of my favourite dream
locations. In this case it’s a real place and I used it in my book. I could
actually pinpoint a lot of the scene locations on a map!
Welcome to Corfu.
The streets of old Corfu town
The colours
The sea
The flowers
The sheer scenic beauty of the place
I'll leave you with a photo of some very old olive trees. These grand old trees are all over the island and make beautiful shady groves, as well as being a source of food and oil. Greek olive groves are one of my favourite places. And when they're on a slope down to a sparkling sea and also shelter some ancient ruins...what's not to love?
I hope you enjoyed this little excursion to the Mediterranean.
If you could plan a
week’s dream escape, where would you go?
Hi Annie
ReplyDeleteThe Greek Isles is one place that I have always wanted to visit, the food and the photos that I have seen over the years have just had made me want to go even more. Not sure if I will ever get there, so I do love that I can be taken there with one of the books that I read and I can highly recommend your new book Annie I loved it, the setting and Pippa and Christo are the best :)

Helen, I'm so chuffed you enjoyed my new book! I'm grinning here. And I'm pleased you like travelling via the books you read too. I'm sure one of the reasons I wanted to visit Greece in the first place, apart from my fascination with ancient history, was reading old Mary Stewart stories set in Crete and Delphi. The settings were so incredibly vivid and interesting that I longed to visit. You never know, you might get there one day, and if not, well I suspect I'll set another book in Greece at some point.
DeleteHi Annie, Greece really is wonderful, isn't it! I visited the island of Santorini last year and it was wonderful. Crete was amazing and I would love to go there again. Great inspiration for stories with gorgeous Greek heroes! Your new book sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteKandy, it was my first trip back to Greece for a long time and so very nice. It's hard to pick a favourite spot there when so many places are special. Here's wishing us more trips there and more inspiration! I'm glad you like the sound of my new story.
DeleteI love the Greek Islands, Annie. I haven't been to Corfu but have been past it on a ferry. My favourite Greek island is Santorini (it is wonderful, Kandy). I also loved a tiny island called Symi - tiny and gorgeous! I would love to go back there!!
ReplyDeleteJennifer, Symi is one of the places I particularly want to visit. Nice to hear you liked it so much. I enjoyed Santorini enormously but at the same time I like places where you can wander off a little away from the crowds. Wouldn't say no to another visit though!
ReplyDeletewell if it was summer I would opt for Darwin but it it is winter I would love a holiday in Canada including a trip to Alaska==LynW
