When A Superhero Comes Along......

Yesterday I watched the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron...

Now, I've always liked a little superhero action. Superman over Batman. Batman over Spiderman. And the Avengers series never disappoints. But as I was watching yesterday I was intrigued by the display of specific heroic archetypes in the movie and tried to figure out which one appealed to me the most.

Tony Stark (played by the incredible Robert Downey Jnr)
Rich, powerful, arrogant....a little self obsessed (like most rich and powerful people no doubt) But a man who feels deeply and becomes undone and vulnerable by his feelings for Miss Pepper Potts.

Captain America.....sigh...(Played by the ridiculously attractive Chris Evans)
Honourable, reliable, generous and loaded with integrity. But, very black or white in his beliefs. He's a man stuck between the world he knew and the one he is in.

Bruce Banner (The Hulk) (Played by the uber sexy Mark Ruffalo)
Sigh...what is there to say about Bruce Banner. Genius, tortured and at war with the other side of himself. And, he is clearly falling for The Black Widow. I just love this scene in Age Of Ultron.

Thor (Played by the perfectly handsome Chris Hemsworth)
Well, Thor is another of those arrogant powerful men. But he's more grunt than genius. And of course he's desperately in love with Jane and will do anything to save his world, his family, and the woman he loves.

Of course, each hero has his merits. But I think I sway towards Bruce Banner.

Who's your pick?

  1. I really enjoy the Avengers movies too, Helen. Well my pick would have to Thor because Chris Hemsworth has.....(drum roll)....just moved in down the road!!! So, I might actually met Thor, although he might just stay in his beachside mansion.

  2. I suppose this is an awful thing to admit, Helen, but I've never seen any of the Avenger movies..... those clips however may just have persuaded me! :-)

I'm going to say Mark Ruffalo. Because Mark Ruffalo....

  3. Helen, I'm going to have to say "snap" with Amy (no surprises there) and confess to not having seen the Avenger movies either.

Based on the clips, though... I rather think I'll take Iron Man. Cocky, confident and brought down by love -- yes, thank you!

  5. Hi Helen

I have to be honest and say that I have not seen any of these movies all the way through though I have seen bits and pieces of them because the grandkids love them and I am also going to choose Chris Hemsworth :)

  7. Helen, I *love* the Avengers movies and all the stand alones - we own them all on DVD. :) Interesting about the hero archetypes - I find myself drawn to Captain America in scenes with all of them, which could be something to do with the actor playing him, but probably because I like the noble hero (huge Superman fan too). But if I had to pick, I'd go Bruce Banner. Tortured genius = happy sigh.

    1. Hi Rachel - yes, there is something naturally appealing about Captain America....but I think Bruce Banner's obvious turmoil is what draws me to that character....takes me back to how I love Jane Austen's tortured men....Wentworth to name my favourite :)

  8. Helen, it's not fair being asked to choose! I hate that. Can't I enjoy them all? Have to say Mr Hemsworth is looking mighty fine. I love a great superhero - especially that mix of enormous power with (we hope) some vulnerability. Such fun!
