And now for today's Sunday Smooch from Annie West.
Luca De Laurentis is focused on two things, adventure and expanding his
billion-dollar hotel empire. He never expects those interests to collide, until
the day he sees his prim and proper assistant transform into a leather-clad
beauty with a taste for excitement.
Allegra Davis is determined never to be judged on her appearance again.
Hence her frumpy work clothes and her move to Italy. Just her luck that the one
person to recognise her in motorcycle leathers is her boss, the man she’s had a
crush on for a year! Now Luca is watching her with heat in his eyes and his
every touch promises pleasure. What happens when their relationship moves out
of the boardroom and into the bedroom?

What the boss wants the boss
gets.
Scene set-up
Luca and Allegra have worked together for a year and the attraction between them has finally come to a head. They're alone together in the empty hotel they have come to inspect. But neither is thinking about that. Luca is desperate to kiss her, but having learned how she'd been sexually harassed in a previous job, is determined to proceed slowly and let her make the first move,
Smooch -
BOUND TO THE ITALIAN BOSS is only my second office romance and in both stories a lot of the action takes place outside the office! I love reading office romances but seem to have trouble keeping my characters to their desks. Are you a fan of office romances? What is your favourite romance trope? Marriage of convenience, twin swap, boy next door, secret baby...?

Smooch -
He was dying, slowly dying of torture.
His whole body was in lockdown. He didn’t dare move
so much as a finger while Allegra sat next to him, her slim hand on his, her
lovely eyes bright with enquiry and uncertainty.
The women he dated were usually confident, supremely
self-assured and not at all hesitant about inviting a man into their bed.
Allegra was different in so many ways, even though
he’d always thought of her as confident in her professional role.
It wasn’t just looks or attitude, though they played
their part. This was Allegra, the
woman he’d appreciated and liked, but hadn’t known at all. The woman who’d
tormented his fantasies though he’d tried to deny it.
With her beautiful blue-grey eyes and lush mouth,
she was more potently desirable than any fantasy. He smelled her: vanilla, warm
female flesh and the slightest hint of musk, and his heart kicked hard into a
primitive, urgent tattoo. A needy tattoo.
He wanted Allegra as he couldn’t remember wanting
anyone. Sitting still, not claiming her, giving her the chance to decide, was
the hardest thing he could remember doing.
Then her hand was on his face, her breath warm on
him. Her fingers channelled through his hair and that touch seemed as intimate
as any erotic caress. Every nerve ending danced into urgent wakefulness.
He was an inch from pulling her to him, and ending
this torment, when she closed her eyes and touched her mouth to his.
The effect was electrifying, even though her kiss
was gentle, almost innocent, with her lips still closed. It was enough to sever
Luca’s control as his blood surged south and every neuron flashed, his brain
demanding more and still more.
Luca hauled her closer, pulling her over the arm of
the chair and onto his lap, lashing her tight within his embrace. She was soft
and curved, deliciously feminine against his granite hardness, and close wasn’t
enough.
Not when he anchored his hand in her fine hair,
angling her head for better access. Not when she responded to the slick of his
tongue along her mouth by opening her lips and letting him plunge deep.
She tasted of wine and something sweet and
unfamiliar. Something that he guessed was simply Allegra. Dimly Luca registered
it was a taste he’d happily grow addicted to.
Her hands wrapped over his shoulders and he dragged
his palm up, over her ribcage to the swell of her breast.
She stiffened and for an instant he thought he’d
scared her, but instead she arched against him, thrusting her softness into his
palm. He stroked his thumb over her nipple and she moaned in the back of her
throat.
He wanted to make her moan again. To scream his name
in ecstasy. He wanted everything with her.
Luca deepened his kiss, mimicking the way he’d like
to possess her body. And the sweetness of her response, the way she melted
against him, sucking his tongue against hers, sparked wildfire in his veins.
‘I want you,’ he breathed, the sound lost against
her mouth. But she heard. He felt the quiver right through her slender body.
She pressed closer, every part of her pure
invitation. ‘Then take me.’
It was as if she’d lit dynamite somewhere in his
brain. He felt the silent, juddering waves of reaction roll through him, felt
his hands tighten possessively on her delectable body. And he realised with
shock that he was close to coming just at the sound of her words and the feel
of her rounded hip against his erection.
Part of him wanted to strip her naked right here.
Another part was all for simply tearing her trousers open and driving into her
without niceties like undressing.
But Luca had more control than that.
Barely.
In a surge of movement he rose to his feet, cradling
Allegra close in his arms, every muscle and sinew taut with aroused
possessiveness.
Instantly her grip tightened, as if afraid he might
drop her. Or as if she too, craved contact.
He liked that. He liked her holding onto him as if
she’d never let go. And when she pulled her head back to gasp in air he liked
the dazed look in her silvery eyes. It was like looking into moonlight, except
there was nothing cool about Allegra’s eyes. They burned with a hunger that
matched his.
Swiftly, driven by the need to stamp his mark, Luca
hitched her higher and bent his head, taking her mouth in a hard, proprietorial
kiss. He needed to taste her again, feel that huge, trembling weight of
anticipation rising up through her body to meet his.
This time when he lifted his head, she looked
thoroughly kissed. Her hair was around her shoulders in glorious waves and her
lips were swollen. Her eyes were diamond-bright.
For a moment they just looked at each other, both
panting, trying to drag in more air. Then Allegra smiled, slowly, sending his
heart spinning out of control and spurring him into action.

OMG, that was HOT, Annie! I sooooo want to read more. (No surprise there!)
ReplyDeleteI love all of your tropes noted above. Variety is the spice of life!
As you know, though, I am partial to sheikhs. There is just something powerful, exotic, and dare I say erotic about them?
Laney, I hope you DO read more! So pleased you enjoyed this snippet. Ah, I've got a soft spot for sheikhs too. So exotic! :)
DeleteHi Annie
ReplyDeleteOh I finished this one last night can I say this is one no one should miss what a beauty Allegra and Luca set the pages alight :)
I love all of the troupes but Cinderella will always be my favourite :)
Have Fun
Helen
Helen, Cinderella is one of my favourite story themes. I find myself writing variations on it a lot.
DeleteWow. I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed this story so much. I love the idea of setting the pages alight! Thank you.
well I suppose I like marriage of convenience---this smooch is very good makes me want to read the whole book----Lyn W
ReplyDeleteLyn, I'm a sucker for a marriage of convenience story! Hope you enjoy 'Bound to the Italian Boss' if you read it.
DeleteHi Annie. Nice this extract.
ReplyDeleteI like the novels of office, where he is the millionaire leader and she is her secretary.
One of my favorite stories is that with the boy next door. But I also like those with a secret baby.
Hi Franca!
DeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed this extract. I don't think I've ever written a boy next door story but I have to say I enjoy a good boss/secretary romance. Secret baby stories are fun!
I'm not usually a big fan of office romance because so many times the hero is busy shagging other women and the heroine is fielding disappointed women on the phone and buying farewell gifts when he gives them the flick.
ReplyDeleteAh, that's in interesting point, Fiona. I'm glad to say that doesn't really feature in this story.
DeleteLove this books beginning ❤️
ReplyDeleteLooks like another winner Annie!
Hey Annie, I love reading most of your trope romances. I haven't read about Luca and Allegra yet. Sometimes I am also curious about office romances but I can say nothing much is really going on in the office rather than outside office romances. My favorite romances trope is secret babies with virgin heroines. The stories will be more interesting, juicy and challenging. My wishes to you.
DeleteHi Bernie,
DeleteGlad you like it! It's actually part of the way through the story, when things are starting to heat up a bit :)
Hi Sophiaanne,
DeleteAnother interesting point about office romances. I've read stories where things do happen in the office, however, I admit I have a hard time keeping my couple in the office. They like to get out and about!
Hi Annie, lovely smooch! I'm half way through reading this book at the moment and enjoying Luca and Allegra's story. I really like the start of the book-grabbed my interest and different too.
ReplyDeleteKandy, here's hoping you enjoy the second half too. That opening was based on a drive we took over a high alpine pass from Austria into Italy and then again in the Dolomites of northern Italy. Not that we crashed, but the place (and the marmots) are real.
DeleteHi Annie , This sounds a good read, and I am not usually into office romance. I like the outdoors types , strong characters and of course any Cinderella type story is just the best . We all like to think there is a Knight in Shining Armour to rescue us from the bottom of the heap.
ReplyDeleteLesley, it's funny that you say that. This couple are definitely outdoors types and they spend the first half of the story away from the office. I had a hard time herding them back there! I love Cinderella stories too, though I like it when Cinderella stands up for herself.
DeleteThat's one hot smooch, Annie. Luca and Allegra's story sounds great! I do like an office romance story.
ReplyDeleteJenn, I'm chuffed you enjoyed it. I like office romances but I don't tend to write them. This is only my second. Maybe it's because I've spent so much time in the past working in an office...
DeleteFab smooch, Annie! I'm looking forward to settling down with Allegra and Luca's story. :-)
ReplyDeleteI think I love all the tropes...but I will confess to a particular fondness a friends-to-lovers story.
Michelle, I'm so glad you like the smooch! They're a couple I really had fun writing. Hm, I find myself writing enemies to lovers more than friends to lovers, but I do enjoy reading those!
DeleteSounds like a good story so far, would really like to read the rest of it...I like different types of storylines but some of my favourites feature sheikhs & a baby surprise is always nice too. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Kerri,
DeleteI've got a soft spot for sheikhs, and a well-written baby surprise is always a treat. Thank you - I'm so pleased you enjoyed this snippet.
The internet appears to have eaten my previous response.
ReplyDeleteI only skimmed the smooch as this book is already on my ereader waiting to be read (I've got reading commitments to meet before I get to read my newest books).
I enjoy office romances as long as the heros aren't unlikabe in their behaviour.
I don't have a favourite troupe, simply because my preference is forever changing.
Lyn, I hope you have a good time with 'Bound to the Italian Boss' when you get to it. I'm smiling at your changing preferences. I have themes that always draw me but I love mixing it up and reading a variety too. The spice of life!
