A new addition.....

It’s a fact that I am an animal lover. I have dogs, cats and horses and would probably have goats if my husband would allow it J in the middle of last year I grieved the loss of my darling dog Barney. He was what I call my heart dog. That dog of dogs that comes along ever now and then and steals your heart without even trying. He was three years old when he diagnosed with lymphoma and passed away a few weeks later. I do have two other dogs, one who is my hubby’s angel and another who we think is a silly as a wheel but love regardless. But Barney went everywhere with me…seventy plus kilos of Dogue De Bordeaux  (like in Turner & Hooch) awesomeness who sat at my feet while I wrote and walked at my side wherever I went.

Losing him was simply heart wrenching and I swore I was done with pets afterwards. Of course, I've since changed my mind. Because now we have Boss. Who was re-homed with us after his former owners couldn't give him the kind of home they knew he needed.  So, here he is…..

A gentle giant….playful and sweet he loves the beach and going in the car. And once again there is a heart dog and my feet while I write and at my side wherever I go.

  3. Aw, Helen, I think Boss is going to get terribly spoilt. You probably shouldn't get the Royal Albert out for him, though. I'm sure the Princess Anne will do.
PS: You are the best pet servant ever. xox

  4. Boss looks like a dog with a big personality, Helen.

I remember I cried for three days when our family dog died when I was a kid. As soon as our kids were old enough to help care for a pet, we brought home the cutest little cavoodle. We all love her.

  5. Helen, Boss looks like a dog with a big appetite, too! LOL Actually, he looks like a big worried softie with that lovely wrinkled forehead!

I still remember how devastating it was to lose our secondhand Sally - we'd had her for 13 years and she used to keep me company when I wrote. Hugs on losing Barney.

  6. Helen, big hugs for the loss of Barney.
Boss looks like a big bundle of affection who is going to get spoilt. I've never had a dog (always had cats)...but now I'm really hankering for one. I take my neighbour's dog out for a walk at least once a week and I've just spent a couple of weeks with my sister's 12 week old cavoodle pup- and I'm hooked. Now, all I have to do is convince the rest of the family, put up fences round the property, dog-proof the cats......easy right?

    1. Hi Louise - I adore my cats (I have two ragdolls, Oscar & Candy) but dogs are different...they just love so unconditionally. :)

  7. Oh, Helen, it's awful losing your pet mate. But your Boss looks gorgeous.
We had a Boss, an ex pig dog we took on when he was retired. He was a greyhound whippet cross and oh so loving.
Many happy years with your new friend.

  8. Helen, sending you HUGE hugs on losing your gorgeous Barney. He sounds like the most amazing pooch. I think taking in a pet that needs to be rehomed is a wonderful thing to do. And I can see that Boss is going to utterly adore you for it. :-) May you have many happy years together!

  9. Helen, hugs on losing Barney. Some dogs just move into your heart and stay there, don't they? But I have to say, Boss looks like a gorgeous addition to your family!
