Here we are five days into the new year and I'm starting to familiarise myself with this shiny thing that is 2015. (It usually takes me many days -- or weeks -- writing cheques with 2014 dates before I'm set!) I'm rather keen on new years, with their blank-canvas quality. It's a chance to close the door on the old, and start fresh with new opportunities: the chance to do better, or to do things differently, or to consolidate a plan in progress because it feels right to do so.
Since my last post was about achievements in 2014, I thought I would continue the theme with what we're keen to achieve in 2015. Perhaps, like Barbara, you're looking forward to getting the most out of life by slowing down and smelling each rose-of-importance. Perhaps there is a special occasion -- a landmark birthday, a wedding, travel -- to look forward to. Or perhaps it's a long-anticipated book you can't wait to get your hands on…or, as a writer, you can't wait to write.
I'm looking forward to finishing two stories which have been works in progress for far too long. I'm looking forward to having a new book to share with readers. I'm also looking forward to several trips: to Bali for a nephew's much-anticipated wedding and another visit to America and Canada, this time with my husband. This will be out first overseas travel together for *mumblemumble* years and the planning has been a work in progress for even longer than my stories. Oh, and there's also a surprise event in planning for a big birthday (mine!), which I know is happening but the format and destination will remain a surprise.
So, tell me: what are YOU looking forward to most in 2015?
Would you believe that I have absolutely no idea what I'm looking forward to most in 2015? I know that there will be positive things about 2015 but haven't made enough plans yet for me to be looking forward to anything.

DeleteI hadn't even thought about that being something to look forward to but you're right. That said, it relies on me actually staying focussed on one idea at a time and not hitting walls. Despite that whether it occurs this year or not, finishing that book is definitely something to look forward to.
For me, it will be finishing things. I've made plans to finish stories and submit them as well as complete renovations in my house. :)

ReplyDeleteA crazy 2015 for me. 8 books being released - a couple with a new publisher and some indie projects as well as a book that's quite different to anything I've written before. And this is my first year without the safety net of the day (night) job - can I do it? Nail biting for sure but kinda exciting too with the manuscript assessment business, Word Witchery, I started with fellow Harlequin author Anna Cleary, picking up in pace too.Fingers crossed that blooms and bears more fruit!
2015 - bring it on, I say :-)
Scary but super-wonderful plans, AA. I love how you continue to stretch yourself with new projects, new genres, new publishers AND the editing business. I agree: bring it on!!!

ReplyDeleteI have just retired so I am looking forward to getting used to that and having more time slow down a little I also have one of my daughters weddings in April which is exciting but other than that there is nothing planned as yet :)

A wedding is always a wonderful occasion to look forward to, as is settling into your retirement. That is a big change but I'm tipping you will love the extra time and keep busy and wonder how you ever managed to work full-time for so long!

I'm hoping to write a book that has been in my head since I was 20. It is very different to what I currently write, so I'm a bit nervous about it. But, will try to get it into the schedule this year.

Jen, scary but how brilliant will it be to get that story out of your head and shared with others. I hope you do manage to get that done in 2015 and, if not, then there is always next year.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to revising my single title book and getting it back in the agent's hands. Also looking forward to the day I finish revamping my bedroom furniture - haven't started yet :) - and going on a trip with my man who has a birthday with a naught next month.

ReplyDeleteI've got some travel on the cards too - other areas of Canada outside Toronto, New York City and Washington DC in the next few months. Plus plenty of writing and a few exciting new projects!

DeleteThere are a few things I'm looking forward to in 2015, such as my new books being out in the world, and lots of books from my favourite authors also being out for me to read, but I'm also looking forward to the surprises each year brings. Good ones only this year, and lots of them, please! :)
ReplyDeleteThere is little more exciting than surprises, and I can say that despite being an (obsessive) organiser by nature. Despite that, it is often the unexpected which happens along and completely blows my socks off.

ReplyDeleteRight now I'm looking forward to finishing my wip and having a couple of reading days. It's been too long since I had time completely 'off'. Though Christmas was great we had visitors so I wasn't really relaxing and I'm feeling worn out.
Other things to look forward to - 4 Harlequin Mills and Boon releases, writing some more novellas. A trip very soon to London and Venice (yay!!!!) and, fingers crossed, another trip later in the year. Here's hoping it's all smooth sailing.
I'm going to jump right to the last paragraph and cheer loudly: FOUR new books PLUS novellas. Hooray!!! And I know how much you enjoy travel -- and how much this inspires your books, which is one of the reasons I love them, they're like a gorgeous escape packed in a beautiful emotional package.
DeleteI hear you on the busy-ness of Christmas when it's packed with visitors. *Whispers*: I have a special fondness for Boxing Day because that's when I can put my feet up and do nothing. There's always leftovers and always a good book or Christmas DVD to enjoy.

ReplyDeleteI've decided to make 2015 my year of being organised! But now I have to confess I'm not off to a flying start! LOL The theme for my last two days has been "don't let your disorganisation become my emergency"! So I'm getting an excellent opportunity to practice several life skills - diplomacy and patience being right at the top of the list! And today is 41 degrees - so hard to practice anything when I feel as though I might melt into the lino!
That sounds like a splendid plan, Sharon, although I'm surprised as you've always struck me as a fellow organised-by-nature soul. Please don't disillusion me!!!
ReplyDeleteHope the weather cools some - it's been hot here as well, although "only" high 30s with a stack of humidity and thunderstorms (which I secretly love for all their shock and awe.)

DeleteOh, yes, great way to describe thunderstorms - shock and awe! We had a doozy the other afternoon and lost power for about 3 hours! Thank goodness for our little camp cooker so I could still make a meal.
