In the last few weeks some of the kitties have shared the the things they love most of all in the world and I've just loved reading about their treasures and the things they love to do.
As I sat down this morning, it was my intention to come up with a similar list of my own, until I realized I was in a stinkin' bad mood. Not just in a little snitch or a little put out, I had the steam coming from my ears and that prickly feeling you get on the back of your neck when you know that if one more thing happens you'll explode in a million bits. It wasn't one particular thing that turned me into this seething state. I realised I'd come across a whole lot of my pet hates all at once and they'd corralled me into a big old pile of grump. With the view that a problem shared is a problem halved, here are the top five things that drive me crazy.
5. The computer telling me I haven't ejected the USB stick properly. Dear Mr Apple, you think I have time to go up and click that extra little box on that extra little drop down menu and then wait a bajillion years while your happy little rainbow circle spins on my screen? No.
4. When small people in this house finish with a cup or a plate and they place it very carefully on the bench above the dishwasher. Oh, it's okay, I know it takes so much more strength and effort to open that dishwasher drawer, the one that's tens of millimetres below where your hand is resting right now and actually put the dish in the place it'll get washed so the magic dishwasher fairy doesn't have to do it
3. People who have the keypad tones switched on on their phone. Because I love sitting in the dentist's office listen to the most tuneless noise in the world while you text your bestie.
2. Paper cuts.
1. When it's Friday 6.30am and you're getting you and your million children ready for work and day job while the washing that you should have done last night is in the machine. And it stops working and a little screen says "I Need Service" and you just know that it's all going to be downhill from here.
I hope you have a much better start to your day! What about you? What are the things in life that have you screaming on the inside :) ?
People who say - when are you going to write a real book......
ReplyDelete>:-/
When real people stop reading fake ones, Amy! That's what I say! :-)
DeleteOh, yeah...and the "are you still churning those books out"! LOVE your response, Yvonne. Must start using that.
DeleteHi Barbara
ReplyDeleteI do hope your day has improved :-)
I really dislike it when someone leaves an empty plate in the fridge and when there are wrappers left on the sink and the garbage bin is so close does my head in
Have fun
Helen
It DID improve, Helen. The washing machine repair man has done a patch-up job and the min-humans were more helpful than usual as their dad is away for two weeks. The trip to An and E today with Twin Two and a badlt sprained ankle set things back a little....
DeleteOh, the empty plate in the fridge!! And the empty water jug!! How could I forget those.
I am so with you on the dishwasher thing, Barbara. Especially when they've been sitting at the breakfast bar, watching me empty the sink of dirty dishes, stack them neatly and in orderly fashion and wipe down the benches. Like, what part of LEAVE THE KITCHEN CLEAN, don't they understand?
ReplyDeleteAnother pet peeve is people who don't indicate, especially on roundabouts. Grrr.
Oh, and borrowing something of mine and not putting it back where they found it in the first place and then when I need it I have to go hunting!
Grrr. Sheesh, now I'm all worked up ;-)
Oh, the borrowing and not putting back, Yvonne! Especially by female members of the whanau. Hairbrushes, straighteners, even my shoes aren't mine anymore!
Delete-Dishwasher étiquette, people! I'm not the only person in the house who is capable of bending down. Drives me freakin' crazy.
ReplyDelete-People who push in front of you in a queue
-Toilet seat left up! I live with 3 men- aaargh!
Is it wine o'clock yet?
I'm so with you on the queue jumping, Louisa. Once upon a time I'd have just looked the other way.Not anymore. And I live with three men too, so I really feel your pain on that one.
DeleteBarb, you've made me laugh - a lot. One of my peeves happened to me this morning on my drive into Nelson. bad drivers. A car pulled out in front of me, drove at 20 kms under the speed limit because first the driver did her hair, then put on a hat, then finished dressing, and proceeded to pick things up from the front passenger's floor. when I finally came up beside her at a roundabout she was having breakfast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did I mention the difficulty she was having staying on the road?
ReplyDeleteThink I've ranted enough. Will keep my other grievances for another post. :) But then Helen mentioned another one that gets me going - empty plates in the fridge. Guess if they left there then no one has to take responsibility for washing them.
I'm glad I didn't turn everyone grumpy, Sue! I laughed about your crazy breakfast woman :) Nothing like bad drivers to get my blood pressure up too.
DeleteOooo, Barbara, peeves looks like just as much fun as faves! LOL
ReplyDeleteOne of my pet peeves is rinsing dishes... if a dish has been used, it needs to be washed! That's WASHED with detergent and hot water (happy for it to be stacked on the "to be washed" side of the sink or put in the dishwasher), but please, not rinsed with a quick splash of cold and put on the clean dish rack! ARGH!
Oh, and we're in an area of poor internet connection at the moment so I'm having fun with super slow connection! I have my fingers crossed that this comment will post and not do the spinning circle thing for 5 minutes and then comeback and tell me the connection failed!
Dishes and the state they are in seems to be a universal source of irritation, Sharon! And that spinning wheel reminds me of the birds circling above the heads in the cartoons - driving me crazy too.
DeleteCompletely with you, Barb, on the dishes left above the dishwasher, and with Helen on the empty wrappers left above the garbage bin, and with Amy on the real book thing, and Alison on the slow internet... Gee, I must be a grumpy so-and-so.
ReplyDeleteOh and another pet peeve of mine...that nobody in the house seems capable of replacing an empty toilet roll with a full one. Am I really the only person in the house who knows how to do it?
Claire, I've changed three toilet rolls today so I completely understand your pain. And that's another thing. No matter whether I get 6, 12 or 24 toilet rolls in the weekly shop they ALWAYS get completely used up!!
DeleteHope you're day started better today, Barb. I don't have a dishwasher *sighs loudly* but I can tell you what I really, really hate is plates and mugs left in other rooms. Honestly, is it really that hard to walk them into the kitchen and put them on the sink?
ReplyDeleteOh, and I really REALLY hate having to dodge people who are about to walk into me because they're too busy looking and/or texting on their phones! What is that about?
LOL. I can see a whole slew of pet peeve posts coming up. :-)
It did start better today, Michelle, but the trip to A and E after netball wasn't quite the afternoon I was hoping for...I know exactly what you mean about people on their phones. Sometimes I just feel like saying "BOO" so they have to look up :)
ReplyDeleteBarb, I hope you don't think I'm evil because your post made me laugh. I *did* feel you pain as well, I promise I did. ;)
ReplyDeletePet peeves - I have a list too long to even put here! 4WD headlights coming through my rear windscreen and blinding me. People who talk during movies. Cigarette smoke clouds around doorways. Tailgaters. Plus all the ones the others listed!
I'm glad my crazy made you laugh, Rachel! People who talk during the movie?? OH,YES. And the ones who are constantly looking at their screen so this a distracting flash of light all the time.
