Toy Boy: Part 3!

Gadgetman's Phone Box!

by Sharon Archer

Nope, this "phone box" isn't something that Gadgetman races into so he can turn into a super-hero!

This is a box full of mobile phones and mobile-phone "bits"!  My dh (aka Gadgetman or Mr Gadget) was having an "organise" in his office and very proudly brought these out to show me!

I couldn't resist having a rummage around to see how many different phones there were which made me think of sharing another "Toy Boy" blog with you!

The annoying thing is that each of these phones has it's own charger -

- with a plug which is not compatible with most of the other phones so there's no possibility of having a "spare".

And the headsets come in a variety of shapes and sizes, too....

 - as do their plug-ins so, again, often not able to transfer to different phone!

What I think is, wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a "universal" plug that all the phone makers used!  Then, I'd be able to charge my mobile phone using the same cable my dh uses!  How efficient would that be!

What about you - do you have a stash of mobile phones lurking in a "phone box" at your place?  Or any revolutionary thoughts to suggest to the manufacturers to make updating your phone more streamlined and user friendly!

  1. Hi Sharon

I totally agree with you we have so many old phones and charges and cords for so many different things and yes pleas a universal charger would be just great LOL

    Have Fun

  2. Helen, I think we should send this incredibly sensible thought about a universal charger out into the ether and maybe, just maybe, TPB will listen! Or maybe not! ;)

  3. Sharon- I feel your pain. I share my house with 3 gadget freaks and we have cupboards filled with plugs/cords/phones/ithings - but whenever I want to find a charger if I'm going away, there's never a spare! How can that be? Sadly, I think TPTB make a lot of money out of ensuring customers only buy their gadget-specific products so I doubt they'll be endorsing a universal gadget any time soon! Great idea though!

    1. Louisa, isn't the whole charger thing frustrating! Oh, dear, I think you've put your finger on the problem - gadget-specific bits probably do make money! Sensible-ness will have to wait a little longer then!

  4. Oh yes, we have gadget overload in our house too, Sharon, from a certain male who shall remain nameless. And where do they go to die? MY filing cabinet!
    How does *that* happen...... grrr....

    1. LOL, Amy! Your filing cabinet must be way too accessible for that nameless-gadget-loving male! So your filing cabinet is a gadget "cemetery"!

  5. Sharon, I loved the peek into your Gadget Man's phone box. We usually pass our old phones on to various kids in the family. When they're not connected, you can still use the games, so that suits the younger ones, and another kid who doesn't normally have a phone has used our older ones with a $20 card in it for when he's away. Not worth buying a whole new phone for that, but it also doesn't have to be up to the minute. Not sure I have enough uses for *all* those your man has, though!

  6. Rachel, I'm so impressed with your in-house "recycling" of old phones! That's so brilliant! Mmmm, and it's made me wonder what games might be on my phone... I know there's sudoku... I wonder if there's anything else. Oh dear, I sense some time-wasting in my near future! ;)

  7. We don't have this issue with phones…as we're dinosaurs when it comes to phones. You know, I have never once sent a text (and my life doesn't feel the poorer for it). ;-) I actually think my phone may be older than any of the ones pictured (hey, on the very odd occasion when I need to make a call, it works). However, if we want to talk computers -- oh, lord, we have ancient computers and do-dads that attach to computers and cables galore.

What I want to know, though, is when I go looking for an extension cord, why there's never one to be found? ;-)

    1. Michelle, I think there's a lot to be said for being a dinosaur! I was very dinosaur-like until I got my dh's last phone - as a hand-me-down! I think one of those phones in the pic is my old phone. I confess to have got to rather like my pre-loved smart phone now though - it has a timer function that is just brilliant!

Oh, I hear you on the extension cords - is there a planet that they migrate to?? I think there must be!

  8. We did have a cupboard full of old mobile phones, but I donated them all to the mobile phone muster. They have drop-off points (saw one at our local charity shop) or you can post them in for free. It felt good to be free of the clutter.

    1. I'm looking forward to my dh having that wonderful clutter-free feeling when he gets rid of these phones, Claire! I keep telling him how much he'll enjoy it! Though, I did enjoy my rummage and blogging about his collection so I can't really be too hard-nosed about it, can I! LOL

  9. Hi Sharon, I can't comment on your post because I've finally been strangled to death by the knotted mountain of phone cords, laptop cords, head phones, extension cords, power packs etc that roam like tumbleweeds through my house. Let me be a warning to you....

    1. Barbara, you did make me laugh! I'll consider myself warned by your sad, but fortunately not irreversible, fate!

So there's obviously a cord or two at Chez DeLeo! ;)

  10. Sharon, how amazing! I'm pleased to say I'm not up to my ears in old phones. Your post reminded me though of my father's shed. It hasn't got as many mowers as it used to have, but once upon a time there were six mowers in there, all in working order, including 2 ride on mowers. I always told him he should open a mower museum.

    1. Annie, you've reminded me that I haven't even gone gadget hunting in my dh's shed yet! My goodness that area would be worthy of a series of blogs in its own right!

LOL on your dad's mowers! I wonder why so many... I mean you can only push one at a time!
