A change of scenery ...

I have just been away for ten days with my man being tourists in our own country. What a different autumn they have in the deep south of New Zealand. Living in the bush in the Marlborough Sounds it is an evergreen kind of existence with little change all year round.

Not so in Arrowtown...

Nothing like the colours seen in fall in the US or Canada I know, but walking alongside the river and seeing the bright shades lit up my day.

Our first stop was at Punakaiki -  known as the Pancake Rocks - on the wild west coast. except there was nothing wild about the sea or weather while we were there.

In fact sunsets were a feature of the trip. I just love the colours of autumn and got a little click happy with the camera so now you have to see the results too :)

Of course we get temperature changes at home but not loads of this white stuff. Though this is only a sprinkling compared to what is coming I was so excited every time I saw snow. I love snow but then I don't have to live with it day in, day out.

I love the seasons and these photos show why autumn is my second favourite after spring. It's nature's show that I adore.
Do you have a favourite season and why?

  1. Sue, great pics! It's been the longest time since I've seen the colours in Arrowtown so you've given me a wonderful walk down memory lane!

I'm an autumn person though spring runs a close second. Autumn is (usually) such a lovely season. The weather seems to be kinder and more settled with some days giving a taste of the winter to come and others giving a lovely balmy taste of the summery days just gone. And the nights are cooler which is so fantastic for a good night's sleep - unlike hot, sticky summer nights. I'm totally not a summer person!

  2. Hi Sharon, I agree with you about those sticky nights - ick. We're having a very warm autumn this year and wondering what winter is going to unleash. The stack of fire wood is awaiting.

  3. Great pics Sue. I used to love summer because I hate being cold but as I get older I'm appreciating the colder weather more :-)

  4. Hey, Amy, long lazy days at the beach were my pick once, but now I prefer the in between seasons with the milder temps.

  5. I love summer the most... mainly because it's warm and rarely wet. While autumn and spring can be warmish, however in Wellington, they tend to be the windiest seasons.
Like AA, I do find the older I get the more I appreciate the colder weather, however, I don't think I'll ever grow to love winter as the barometric pressure changes that accompany the wet weather are painful. I'm too damn young (31) to have been able to feel rain in my bad joint for a decade - that said the injury that screwed that joint was 20 years ago.

    1. Yes, Lyn, you do get some harsh weather in Wellington, but that harbour is beautiful when it's in a storm - as long as you're tucked up warm and dry.

    1. I agree, Helen, the colours are wonderful, though do admit they were so much brighter and stronger in Canada.

  7. Lovely pictures, Sue! Autumn is definitely my favourite season too - it's a nice reprieve from the heat of summer and the colours are incredible. Spring and the cherry blossoms are a close second :)

  8. Gorgeous pics, Sue. It sounds as if you've been having a great time. :-)

And you'll have to count me in the cast of cats who love autumn. That glorious cooling down after all of the heat and humidity -- I just love it. :-)

    1. What a lovely way to describe autumn, Michelle. And yep, we had a wonderful time even though the salmon we went to catch weren't so obliging.

  9. What a lovely trip, Sue. NZ is so gorgeous.

I love Autumn. Right now in fact. Love it when all the heat is gone from the days and you can light a fire in the evenings. Love the smell of wood smoke!

    1. There's something about sitting around a fire at night, isn't there, Jennifer? Though so far this year we've only had three, the warm temperatures are lingering.
