When you read this my husband and I will be on our way to sunny Rarotonga (as opposed to being in sunny Auckland) which is our belated treat to ourselves for our 30th wedding anniversary which we celebrated in November last year.
Now, not a great fan of high humidity and great heat, I have to wonder what I was thinking when I
agreed to this (I hear Antartica is lovely at this time of year, but then there is the matter of the trip by ship which I'm not a fan of either), but I guess the opportunity to get away was too good to miss and hubby has been wanting to go to Rarotonga for a very long time. Everyone we know who has been there has loved it, plus we have the added advantage of everything being in New Zealand dollars as well--yippee!
So, I've been sorting out what I want to pack--swimsuit (and we wont discuss the Great-Swimsuit-Hunt and how many suits I had to try on before settling on one), clothes, books, etc.--and the little black cat is already not talking to me. I defleaed her in anticipation of her visit to her kitty hotel and I'm pretty sure she's figured out what's happening. Can we say, sulking? And in my bed, too! (Yes, she put herself there with no help whatsoever.)
Lately, whenever I'm heading anywhere, I become rather obsessed by weather reports and, given it's cyclone season in the islands, things are looking like being a mixed bag during our vacation. Still, I figure it'll be warm and we wont be working, right? And who cares if its raining while you're in the pool?
What are your must-pack items when heading for a tropical vacation? Sunblock (note to self: buy some more!)? Swimwear? books? I'd love to know.
Regrettably, I don't think I'll be able to comment on your comments while I'm away but rest assured I will read every one on my return. So, while this cat's away, feel free to play! :-)
Hi Yvonne
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time and as I have been on a couple of cruises around the Islands where it is hot and humid I take what you are taking lots of sunblock and take some moisturizer as well you will need lots after being in the sun :)
Have Fun
Helen
I'm back! And we had a lovely time. And, yes, I used bucket loads of sunblock :-).
DeleteI always take my Kindle. A library at your fingertips for those waits while travelling, or lazing by the pool. Also sunblock and insect repellant! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteStrangely enough, even though I took insect repellant, we didn't need it! Lucky us, huh?
DeleteI hope you have a lovely time, Yvonne. I'm with Helen -- sunscreen and a good moisturiser...along with a jaunty sunhat. I doubt any of us need to remind you to pack some books. ;-) Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteTick, tick, and tick! :-) And yes, books were definitely enjoyed under the umbrella by the pool! :-)
DeleteHave fun, hope you have a wonderful time! I ALWAYS take sunscreen. And a book, of course. With those two things I'm a happy girl :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent combo, Stefanie!
DeleteOh, Yvonne, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. We've been there a couple of times and I adore the place. Everyone's very friendly and there's not much to do so you have to relax.
ReplyDeleteI always pack books and jandals for a tropical trip, and a great hat.
I took two hats, a cap for day trips and a big floppy sunhat for lazing around and walking around the resort with. Perfect!
DeleteHave a wonderful time, Yvonne. For me, sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!!
ReplyDeleteYup, I agree with you, Jen. I can burn in a dark room, I'm sure of it. Worse now with one of the meds I'm on. :-)
DeleteYvonne, have a ball! For me it would be someone (like Mr West or a close girlfriend) who'd make the trip fun. And of course sun screen and something to read!
ReplyDeleteWe had a fabulous time, Annie! Truly relaxing and fun at the same time.
