We all know that one, right?
And then I wrote a character who I just knew was a really solid, muscular (as opposed to muscly which I think are two different things) manly, hairy, man's-man, testosterone infused dude. I really wasn't sure why he had to be so but I just knew he did so I went looking for a guy to base him on and I came across this one.
I've always had a thing for Mark Ruffalo so he ended up being perfect for Dashiell Dent, the hero in my upcoming May 8th release (Limbo). By about half way through the book I knew why Dash had to be hairy and solid because he had to be the absolute opposite of Joy's ex who is a skinny, waxed, metrosexual kinda guy. I didn't know that at the beginning. I didn't even know it as I was writing both of them. I'm not sure when it clicked. Doh! We writers can't see the wood for the trees some times!
So, score one for hairy men. Merely an abberation (along with my schoolgirl crush on the very hairy Tom Selleck) I told myself. And then this happened -
It's a hard job but somebody's got to do it..... |
And now I'm a convert..... Poldark and Ruffalo ruining me for smooth men everywhere.....
Are you a smooth or hairy gal? And do you have any examples of hairy men you'd like to share? Have mouse will travel :-)
PS - If you're keen to find out more about Dash Dent my hairy hero you can pre-order it here and read its first review on Goodreads which is just up here.
BEHOLD THE POWER OF THE HAIRY MAN CHEST!
ReplyDelete:-)
DeleteOh, dear lord, Amy! I just went hunting for pictures of hairy men and ended up somewhere that...whoa *fans face* that I shouldnta. So I won't post any links. ;-) But you can put me down firmly in the likes-hair column. I don't know why, but I just find men with a nice manly hairy chest--uber virile and masculine. Sigh. :-)
ReplyDeleteP.S. Aragorn (played by Viggo Mortensen) who is one of my all-time favourite heroes, definitely has a hairy chest.
I can just imagine where you ended up, Michelle :-)
DeleteVirile - yes! That's *exactly* it!
Mmm Hairy chested Viggo
ReplyDeleteMmmm... Happy sighs.
DeleteI love Mark Ruffalo - must be why I love a man with a hairy chest. Oh wait, my husband has one too!
ReplyDeletelol Tammy - my hubby doesn't :-)
DeleteAmy, I am DEFINITELY gonna get me some Dash Dent as I LOVE me a hairy guy. Being married to a Greek and being THE biggest Mark Ruffalo fan of all time, I think my preferences speak for themselves (have you seen "In the Cut"? You should :-) Now I'm off to find those sites Michelle was talking about...
ReplyDeleteNo haven't seen In the Cut but am making a list :-) Thanks Barb!
DeleteLOL, Barb -- they'll make you blush. You have been warned. ;-)
DeleteAmy
ReplyDeleteI too love a hairy man although not to to much :) LOL and seeing as how I watch so very little TV I can't name any I will leave it to you wonderful authors to write about them that will have me smiling
Have Fun
Helen
Looking forward to the new one :)
:-) am happy to be your hairy man deliverer, Helen!
DeleteHi AA - ohhhh.....hairy, not hairy, in uniform, outta uniform.....in any form! I like 'em all. But I particularly like Mark Ruffalo....he is my favorite Avenger too :)
ReplyDeletelol - dont even get me started on a uniform :-)
DeleteI like variety, some with hair and some without. I'll second Helen's uniform suggestion! I can't say I was ever much of a Mark Ruffalo fan, but that pic has me reconsidering.
ReplyDeleteFence sitting I see, Stefanie ;-)
DeleteI think the older Mark gets the better he gets. Loved him in The Normal Heart.
Wow, what a great pic of Mark Ruffalo!!! But, I'm more your smooth chested kinda gal.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new release!!
That must be the surfie groupie in you, Jennifer ;-)
DeleteI am a fan of hairy chests, but not gorilla-like hair! I hate when they wax & it looks like they are made of wax! Mark is a cutie, for sure!
ReplyDeletelol, Sharlene. No gorilla's - check!
DeleteHmmmm.... I think I'm a smattering kind of girl....having just googled and followed your lead and now I need to bathe my eyes in soothing cold water...whoa.......not a big fan of hairy backs either
ReplyDeletelol - no backs!
DeletePoldark, of course, belongs to me. But otherwise, I don't mind - I'm just not crazy about excessive 'grooming'. A waxed eyebrow, for example, will kill every hormone in my body.
ReplyDeletelol Avril, greedy Poldark stealing woman! There's this great song by Brad Paisley called I'm Still A Guy that talks about that kinda stuff

NICE pics, Amy! I'm a bit like you - I prefer smooth chests but then... there's Pierce Brosnan who has quite a hairy chest. http://pbfiles.proboards.com/thread/1161/pierce-brosnan-shirtless?page=2
