Resisting Temptation

I am a woman easily tempted.

Chocolate lips are tempting
This is a fact well-known -- and well-exploited-- by those who know me well.  And here's the thing: I enjoy being tempted.  The thought of doing something a little bit bad, forbidden, creates a rush…it's similar to what I get from my favourite type of romance.  It's what attracted me to category romance right out of the box: I couldn't get enough stories of forbidden love.  This storyline remains a strong favourite.

Being a woman of little willpower, I am a sucker for pretty much everything that is bad for me.  Chocolate, shopping I can't afford, wine, movie dates when I should be working, cake, trips away when I should be working, ice-cream, catch-up television when I should be working.  You get the drift.

I love skiing (slowly)
The latest temptation sent to lure me: my sister is planning a ski trip to America next January/February.  Free accommodation.  I have enough points for airfare.  The chance for sister-bonding.  How could I not be tempted?  BUT -- and it is the big but -- I have already booked a holiday to America late this year, with my husband, and two overseas holidays within three months would be excessively indulgent.

After days poring over flight schedules and connection times and selecting dates to avoid special birthdays and such, I gave myself a Cher/Moonstruck-style slap and said "Snap out of it, Bronwyn." I told my sister, "sorry, this is the wrong year for me", and waited for the glums to hit.  Waiting, still waiting...

Five days later and I'm feeling pretty good about my decision and even better that I managed to resist temptation. Turns out that I kinda like saying "no".  Perhaps I should do this more often.  :-)

What temptation have you resisted lately…or did you give in and enjoy the heck out of it?
