I often find myself getting sucked down that rabbit hole…otherwise known as YouTube. You know how it is—you want to listen to just one song because you caught part of it on the radio and you haven’t heard it in ages and you just know you won’t get the song out of your head until you’ve heard it all the way through.
But YouTube then tempts you with other song suggestions and suddenly you’re off, listening to one song after another and having a grand old time.
Actually, can you tell I enjoy this particular rabbit hole? I refuse to call it a time-waster or source of procrastination because I find a lot of inspiration in music. And I love to have a theme song for whichever book I’m working on. For my current work-in-progress I have three songs:
1. Foolish Games, Jewel
2. Kiss Somebody, Morgan Evans
3. Simply Irresistible, Robert Palmer
I heard that second song on my road trip to Tassie, and I jotted it down for future reference…and to research the artist because I wasn’t familiar with Morgan Evans.
Well, slap my thigh and call me Susan—he’s a Newcastle boy (my hometown)! AND he has the sweetest grin on the planet (check out the film clip to While We’re Young…just the first little bit, and you’ll see what I mean...as a bonus there's a stunning beach in the film clip too).
How has he never crossed my path? (I’m talking figuratively not literally here…still ;-) ). And then I came across this particular YouTube clip and it amazed me what he did with his "American" band. The clip is long, but interesting. And, hey, let's admit it -- he's not hard on the eyes is he?
So tell me, have you made a recent musical discovery? Do share…there’s a rabbit hole that’s beckoning. ;-)
Edited to add: Some of you will have noticed that we've started posting our blog posts over on our LoveCats Facebook page as well (click here if you haven't liked us over there and want to). We'd love to know where you most like to access our posts or if you feel strongly one way or the other where the posts appear. Thanks!
WOW he is really good oh I am so not a YouTuber I stay away from things like that they are way too time consuming for me although I do check out the odd clip here and there when sent a link :) The grandkids I don't think could cope without YouTube these days :)
ReplyDeleteSo no music discoveries from me sorry
Have Fun
Helen
You could be wise, staying away from YouTube, Helen. :-) Besides, you do far more important things with your leisure time...like read romances. :-)
DeleteLaughing at your grandkids not coping without YouTube. My niece is the same.
I love Morgan Evans, Michelle! But then I'm a country music gal so.....
ReplyDeleteAs far as YouTube, Helen's right, my kids live on it! But I'm more of a "watch my fav clips from TV and movies" kind of watcher.
I don't know how I've not stumbled across him before, Amy. I mean, I knew the song "Kiss Somebody" but just hadn't paid an iota of attention to who sang it. It's been fun exploring his other songs.
DeleteLove watching fave clips from movies on YouTube too...and I fell down an altogether different rabbit hole the day before yesterday after watching the Uma Thurman clip on Harvey W. It led to some *very* interesting links and interviews.
Oh yes - once you start watching clips on YouTube you're there for 4 hours!
DeleteAin't that the truth!
DeleteI found Moon & Back by Andrew James on YouTube. He sings country ballads.
ReplyDeleteWhat a haunting song! I've never heard it (or him) before, Therese.
DeleteMind you, he's not hard on the eyes either, is he? ;-)
He definitely isn't. I'm not into country music, but there are some songs I like that don't sound too country.
DeleteCountry music isn't my favourite either, but there are some country songs that I just love.
DeleteI watch a lot of YouTube but not really for the music. Actually, it's how I'm learning to knit at the moment! Great tutorials on there for all kinds of things :)
ReplyDeleteIt seems like such an excellent resource for learning just about anything, Stef! We're so lucky to have so much easily-accessible information available to us. And good luck with the knitting!
DeleteI hate to admit this but I've never watched anything on YouTube, Michelle. Time I learned how to??
ReplyDeleteLOL. It's probably wiser to stay away, Sue. ;-)
