Wedding Speeches by Amy Andrews

I watched Four Weddings and a Funeral (for the 46th time) recently. One of my fav scenes in the movie is the disatrous best man speech given by Tom at Bernard and Lydia's wedding.

Here's a little reminder -

So then, of course, that led me to go looking for other best man/maid of honour speeches. Trust me, do not do this unless you want to waste a large portion of your day. But its great for procrastination purposes!

Here are a few for your enjoyment.

There's nothing like a witty speech that will be remembered for a long time to come!

Have you ever been to a wedding with a funny/witty speech that has stayed with you?

  1. That wedding speech in Four Weddings and a Funeral is hilarious!!

I was at a wedding when one of the guests got up and made a speech about how sexist the groom was - that was an awkward moment!

  2. Oh, they were hilarious, Amy! Love Four Weddings and a Funeral. :-)

I was at a wedding once where during his speech the father of the bride forgot the bridegroom's name. Oops. ;-)

    1. At least he didn't call him the name of the previous boyfriend, Michelle :-)

    2. Believe me, everyone at our table was whispering under our breath, "Don't call him David. Don't call him David." So, yes, it could've been worse. ;-)

  3. Oh Amy

They were funny I don't think that I have heard any that would be that funny or none that I remember anyway :)

    Have Fun

  4. I love all your examples, Amy.
Unfortunately I can't recall any very funny speeches at weddings I've attended. Must go to some more interesting ones. :)

  5. They were such fun!!! I once went to a wedding where the couple asked for anyone to make a speech if they so wished... what felt like hours later we were all still sitting grimacing as the first speech went on and on- one of the bride's very drunk friends relayed the antics they'd got up to (it felt like minute by minute) when they lived together. 'Oh and do you remember that night when we... and that other night when we... and, oh....' le sigh. There was else nothing to do but drink!!! LOL So we did.

    1. Oh yes, Louisa, witty speeches can last forever but those long-winded, boring, drunken ones? Oi!

  6. That Four Weddings and a Funeral speech is so cringe-worthy!! I've actually been to a wedding where the mother of the groom gave a speech and was taking shots at her ex-husband all the way through, very awkward indeed.

The best man at our wedding (my brother-in-law) had the crowd laughing a lot during our speech and I wish I could remember what he'd said, but the whole day was such a blur :)
