Best books of 2015...so far

Each year I set myself goals with my reading, both in terms of number and with the types of things I want to read.

Nothing goes better with a book than coffee and chocolate
Why do I do this? I think it keeps things interesting and it also stops me getting into a rut with my reading.

So here's what I'm hoping to achieve this year:

  • Read at least 50 books
  • Complete a series
  • Read five novellas
  • Read a book with more than 500 pages
  • Read a book that wasn’t published this decade
  • Read at least one of the following: classic, fantasy, horror, science fiction, book on which a movie is based (and then watch the movie to compare), banned book, crime, book based off a true story
So far I'm doing well. According to my Good Reads reading challenge I'm at 29 books read out of 50. I've read over ten novellas, I finished Game of Thrones which ticks off the book with more than 500 pages challenge and I've finished a series!

Not bad going for the first half of the year.

Interested in finding out which books I've loved so far this year? Watch the video below to see which 8 out of the 29 get my tick of approval.

Do you set goals for your reading? What's the best book you've read so far this year?

  1. Stef, you're so organised with your reading! Maybe I should set some goals too. This year my reading has been terribly interrupted by a number of upheavals, so I feel I'm always snatching time in between other things. I can't wait to lose myself in some more good books!

  2. I love your YouTube channel, Stefanie! Fabulous.

I don't have anywhere near as much organised reading as that. And I tend to stick mostly to romance these days although I have just started Rob Lowe's second book about his life which is really good!

I've actually read a lot of books this year thanks to my New Years resolution to read every night in bed. Not as many as I'd like to of course :-)

I totally agree about the V-Spot. Loved that book! One of my favs this year has been Ainslie Paton's new Bliss King series - 2 down, 2 to go!

    1. Thanks Amy! I like your New Years Resolution, it's such a great habit to get into. I keep seeing those lovely Bliss King covers pop up on my FB feed, must check them out.

  3. Love that you've set reading gaols, Stefanie, and that you're killing them. And the video kills it (should I call this a vlog? I'm so behind the tech times, but loved this format.)

I've also been reading more widely and you've inspired me to set goals and record reading notes because I'm now having to think hard about my favourite reads so far this year. It would be so much easier if I had reference materials. Hmmm.

I really enjoyed Kristen Ashley's The Will. She's been hit-and-miss for me but this hero and mature relationship and the character cast really hit home for me. Even if the will trope is a bit…odd.

Also reading an old-skool suspense series by CJ Box, set in Wyoming with the hero being a game warden and a good/nice bloke who kinda stumbles into these situations. Love the setting and the environmental/wildlife/living-off-the-grid themes although not for the squeamish.

    1. Video or vlog works fine :) The CJ Box stories sound interesting, I've always been fascinated by 'off the grid' living. It seems like a whole other world.

  4. Oh WOW- colour me impressed by your goals, your lists and your reading- plus your amazing vlog!

I belong to a book club and we have quite an eclectic mix of things that we share there. This year has been the year of Liane Moriarty for me. I have only just discovered her and LOVE her books, so I've glommed a few of hers. I've also just finished Jo Jo Moyes' One Plus One which was just lovely. Hmmm, I really should branch out a bit more....you've got me thinking....really should try something other than women's fiction....

    1. Thanks Louisa :) This must be the third or fourth time I've seen Liane Moriarty mentioned recently, maybe it's a sign from the universe.

  5. You are doing SO well on your reading goals, Stef. Go you! I keep a record of books read -- so far this year I'm at 26. My book club widens my reading and it's through it that I read one of my fave books so far this year -- Gone Girl. Which in turn had me looking for more suspense and stumbling across Lisa Gardner's Crash and Burn which I liked even more. Oh, and I've just discovered Grace Burrowes -- A Single Kiss is a fabulous contemporary romance. Will be reading much more from her. :-)

Oh, and I meant to say that I thought your YouTube channel brilliant!

    1. How amazing is Gone Girl?? Was one of my favourite reads last year. Certainly made me want more thriller type books. I'll have a look at Lisa Gardner, I haven't read her work before.

And I'm glad you like the channel :D

  6. Blimey, that's awesome, Stefanie. I've never set such a thorough reading goal, but I can see the merits for doing so. Especially where I could push myself to read outside my comfort zone.

  8. Awesome reading goals, Stefanie! I'm impressed by your list and your achievements to date. Lately I've lacked the concentration needed to really enjoy reading--a combination of family events and deadlines and illness. I think I need to reprioritise things so reading is back up there in the must do pile!

  10. Took me a few days to get to watching the video. While I set reading goals mine are nowhere near as detailed as yours.
That sadi my goals this year - read 75 books. According to Goodreads, I've already read 46 although this doesn't take into account the numerous re-reads I've done.
The other goals are to make a dent in my unread titles on my Sony Reader, to get rid of duplicates on my Sony Reader and also to organise my to-read list, my Goodreads shelves and my ereader 'shelves' in some kind of way that makes sense and makes it possible to find things.

    1. Lyn, 45 books already?? That's great! The ebooks accumulate quickly don't they, I dread to think how many are on my kindleapp.
