I'm spent, knackered, shamozzled, done-in!!
Book three is now in the hands of my lovely editor and while I wait to hear back from him on edits I'm a little lost, to be honest.
Although I like to think I'm a pretty organized person, the last few days on a book are all consuming. I usually start at the computer at 5am, end at 10pm and have to spend a good few minutes brushing the crumbs of hastily eaten meals from the keyboard before I start again the following morning.
Since handing my book in it's taken me two whole days just to catch up on emails, pay bills and tidy my desk and now it's time to fill the well. Even though all I feel like doing is diving into my next story, I know I mustn't. I know that if I don't take some time to do things that let my creative juices recharge, then I'm likely to crash and burn. I know most of the kitties are off at the Romance Writers of Australia national conference in Perth today so I'm asking you all for a little help in "Filling up the Well".
The thing I MOST like to do to get me recharged is to watch romantic movies. First on the list yesterday was 13 going on 30 (Suddenly 30) Although it was released in 2004, I LOVE that movie. I watched it with my twelve year old twin girls yesterday and they loved it too. It has a clever premise and a fabulous black moment where you truly believe the hero and heroine will never be together.
I also like to have a good cry and "P.S I Love You" does that for me. That's on today's list.
Tomorrow I think it'll be "The Princess Bride. It's kind of our family movie and I love the fun of it and the laughs. If you've never seen it, you must! It has something for everyone in it.
After that I'm a bit lost so I really need some recommendations. What's your go-to romantic movie—the one that give you that tingly feeling, the one that you'll always go back to?
Oh Barb, my fav subject! I have a Whole host of go-to romance movies and you've already mentioned two!
ReplyDeleteHere are some others -
Love Actually
Big Fat Greek Wedding
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Dan in Real Life - love this one, Steve Correll in a really different role.
Stranger Than Fuction - a surprising romance and have had a hug crush in Will Ferrell ever since.
Sorry, am on my iPad and screen froze....couldn't even correct my spelling :-(
ReplyDeleteAND I wasn't finished :-)
Another one I love is Raising Helen and Wimbeldon.
Appy viewing and yay on book 3!!!
Thanks so much, Amy! You've given me four new ones to try. The first three are on my favourite list already!
ReplyDeleteOh, and the Will Ferrell movie...did you spell it like that 'specially for my New Zild accent...!
Congrats on getting book three in, Barb. Very exciting.
ReplyDeleteThe Princess Bride is one of my all time favourite movies. I love it. I haven't seen the other two, so will add them to my list to watch. I love The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet. There's a scene in that movie that reminds me so much of how my hubbie and I got together - looking across a crowded room.
Oh, Jen, I love "The Holiday too! I wasn't much of a fan of Cameron Diaz or Jude Law until I saw that movie but I ended up loving it! Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteOh, congrats on book 3, Barb! What a great achievement!
ReplyDeleteI love me some good romcoms too so I was a bit disappointed when I recently flew to US with the excited prospect of catching up on some on the flights- to find there were very few! Not even any good old ones. I did, however watch a quirky movie called Ruby Sparks which was fun (and about a writer too) which I enjoyed.
There's always good old Bridget Jones - what's not like about Hugh Grant and Colin Firth fighting over a woman! ( sigh). And I love Pretty Woman, When Harry Met Sally, 10 Things I Hate About You (sob for Heath) and Sweet Home Alabama... any of those take your fancy?
Barb, that's awesome news about your book. You're rocking.
ReplyDeleteKnow what you mean about filling the well. It is surprising how much finishing a book takes out of you, isn't it?
I'm repeating others here. My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Bridget Jones' Diary would be my picks.
Love your choices, Barb! My go-to post-deadline viewing is North & South. Sometimes the Pride & Prejudice mini-series, or maybe one of the other Jane Austen adaptations.
ReplyDeleteBut looking for more fun options, I love While You Were Sleeping (and I think your girls would love that one too), and another Sandra Bullock favourite: Hope Floats. (I've been trying to buy a copy of Hope Floats for ages but can't find it anywhere!)
Oh, and Stardust. Love, love that movie - I think your boys and your girls will love that along with you.
lol, no Barb I didn't :-). Somtimes on my iPad I'll be merrily typing away and the screeb freezes and doesn't even allow me to go back and fix typos and I didn't want to have to go back again and re-do so I just published. But it is kinda of funny :-)
ReplyDeleteSome more of my favs mentioned here. How could I forget Bridget (1 not 2!!) All of Louisa's suggstions are on my frequently watched list! You have good tatse Louisa :-)
Yay for book 3, Barbara!
ReplyDeleteOoo, movies! And I've got some to add to my must-watch list from this post so thanks!
One of our faves is Notting Hill - love that line "I'm just girl asking a boy to love her" (happy sigh!)
and there's Someone Like You with Hugh Jackman and Ashley Judd. What's not to like about a movie with Hugh as the romantic lead! (another happy sigh)
;)
