Happy Release Day To Me!

So, it's almost April and that means my latest book, No Stranger To Scandal will be released (in the US, Aust & NZ), and I'm wondering about ways to celebrate.

Plans so far:

Celebration 1 (for the blog's readers): I'll give away a copy to one commenter below. :)

Celebration 2 (for me): ...See, this is where I'm stuck. I'm thinking I might do something involving chocolate or champagne. Or maybe going out to dinner. But I have no concrete ideas.

I know some authors buy a new charm for their bracelet for each book they have published - I love that idea, but I don't have a bracelet. Others buy a present, or have a champagne toast, or go out to dinner.

Any ideas? I'm completely open to new ideas. Something not too expensive (yes, I'd love a trip to Paris to celebrate, but maybe not this time...). And, as I said above, I'll give away a copy of No Stranger To Scandal to one person with a suggestion (even if it's a bad suggestion).

In the meantime, this is what the new book is about:

Decorum Vs. Destiny

She might be the stepdaughter of one of the most powerful media moguls in Washington, but Lucy Royall is no pampered princess—she's making her own way as a junior reporter. But when congressional investigator Hayden Black accuses her stepfather of criminal wrongdoing, she shows her family loyalty and takes Hayden on. Then, as things heat up, the sexy single dad takes her to bed! Talk about a conflict of interest. Will their illicit passion turn into something more lasting, even in the face of controversy so huge it rocks a nation?

  1. Congrats for your new book.. when you ask about idea, i just think about hiking or celebrate on the beach, buy some clothes.. not too expensive, or you can decorate for your home, make same spesial dinner in your home.

  2. Rachel, great news on your newest release! I'm so looking forward to reading this one. It's on my bedside table, peeking out temptingly...sigh. I'm telling myself when I get my work done I can read it.

As for celebrations, how about a picnic? That could involve chocolate most definitely and possibly bubbly and of course you could take the dogs if you're so inclined. Why not make the most of the pre-winter weather with a romantic picnic?

  3. Oh. I have a suggestion. (Maybe not a real practical one but in-keeping with the blog...) Get a new kitten! Or maybe foster one until a lovely family comes along.
Can not wait to read this one!

  4. Congratulations on your new release, Rach! Really looking forward to snuggling up with it. :-)

Hmm...celebration ideas. Bubbles and chocolate have already been mentioned (but frankly any excuse for those and I'm in). Do you like plants? You could plant a new flower for each of your books and create the most wonderful garden (which would be a nightmare for me, but different strokes... ;-) ). Or a new handbag. Or maybe you could splurge on a charm bracelet. Whatever you do -- ENJOY!

  5. Hi Rachel - congratulations on your release! The book looks awesome. A suggestion.... what about horse riding? Churchill once said that the best thing for the inside of a man or a woman was the outside of a horse.... A beach or bush ride can be exhilarating. Or a a kitten, like Robyn said :)

  6. Cecilia, I really like your idea of a special meal at home. I wonder if I could talk Mr Bailey into one of his fabulous desserts...

  7. Annie, a picnic with four dogs might be more of a challenge than a reward, but it sounds fun anyway. Good luck getting your work done!

  8. Robyn, a kitten! Oh, that would be a lovely celebration. Unfortunately, Oliver would eat it. Though a new little puppy is another matter... :)

  9. First of all, congratulations! That is no easy feat!

So ... what about you and "Mr. Bailey" going out to your local theatre for a show? We are VERY fortunate to have a nearby theatre with free parking; two tickets cost $80 or so (equivalent to a family of four supper out).

  10. Michelle, I really like your idea of a new flower for each book. Though will it be a bad omen if I manage to kill some of them through poor gardening talents...? Maybe I'll take on your philosophy of taking any excuse for chocolate and bubbles. :)

  11. Helen, a horse ride? Now, that's an unusual suggestion. I used to ride a fair bit when I was a kid, but haven't been on a horse in years.

I think I remember Michelle was going to reward herself for one book with a horse ride. Michelle, did you ever do it?

  12. Hi Rachel.

Happy Release Day. Get dressed up, Nice dinner and go dancing. I was gong to say ride a roller coaster, but you would say that was a "bad suggestion"

  13. Oh. Yes. Forgot about Oliver...

    Am loving all these suggestions!

  14. Laney, now there's something else I haven't done in years - a show! Seeing live entertainment is so exhilarating, isn't it?

  15. Lol, Tammy. Yes, a roller coaster is definitely a bad idea for a celebration for me. :)

A nice night out where we have to get dressed up. That's actually a great idea. Thanks!

  16. Happy Release Day!!

You could do something that's on your 'bucket list', if you have one. With each book you could cross something off.

  17. Robyn, the suggestions have been great! I can see me coming up with a list of things and slowly making my way through them (even when I have nothing to celebrate ;)).

  18. Mary, that's fabulous! I don't have a bucket list but I keep thinking of things that would go on it if I *did* have one. Crossing one off for each book is genius!

  22. HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY, RACHEL! As someone who's been lucky enough to read the gorgeous No Stranger to Scandal I can say that all your readers will be celebrating too.

The only word that comes up in my dictionary under celebration is champagne. My goal is to write enough books to be able to celebrate with every single kind of champagne ever made. I'm sure you could do the same with chocolate {;o)

  23. bn100, you know, that's a great idea. I've been meaning to do that since my first book came out, but I've never gotten around to it. Maybe now's the time!

  24. Thanks, Barb! And thanks for your input on No Stranger To Scandal. :)

Actually, I could totally see that - a new type of chocolate for each book. I'm going out to the shops today... I'll see what I can find!

  25. Congrats on the impending release, Rach.

Hmmm, let me see....I bought A lovely ring when I got my first contract but haven't done anything to mark the other 30+ books:-/ Instead every year I shout myself to the RWA conference as my reward for working hard and writing books. Come hell or high water - its *my* thing and it doesn't matter if its been a lean year or I have deadlines backed up to the wahoo - its my reward and goddamn it, that's what credit cards are for :-)

PS - Love the hunk on the Aussie cover!

  26. Amy, a ring is a lovely idea. And I'm totally with you about attending the RWA conference every year as a reward. :)
