Happy New Year!

New Year 13
So it's the very last day of 2012. It's been an interesting year and, as with most years, full of good and bad:

  • London held the Olympics
  • We survived another 'end of the world'
  • The US had an election
  • Scientists discovered the Higgs bosun
  • Gagnam Style fever spread
  • Whitney Housten died
  • Hurricane Sandy hit the US east coast
  • The iPad mini and iPad 3 launched
  • Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise split
  • A man jumped to Earth from the edge of space

In my family, the night before a birthday or a new year, we look back on the preceding year and say thank you to the year for the good things. Then the morning of the birthday or new year, we verbally welcome the coming year. Cheesy, perhaps, but I like the tradition.

Tell me, what was the one thing you'd really like to thank 2012 for? Or the thing you're most looking forward to in 2013? Or both. :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  1. Hi Rachel-love your family tradition!
'Remain optimistic' is my resolution every new year-so far it's working!
Hope 2013 brings you everything you wish for and more!

  3. I'm thankful that 2012 was the much needed calm after the 'excitement' of 2011.

  4. Great tradition, Rachel!

I'd like to thank 2012 for our time spent travelling through eastern Australia! Awesome trip! And I'm looking forward to doing more!

2013 is going to be the "Year of the Tidy Office" for me... or maybe that should be the "Year of the Tidier Office!" Oh, dear... am I slipping already?! LOL

    Happy New Year!

  7. Sharon, that *was* an awesome trip! Especially the part where you visited me. :)

Love the idea of a Year of the Tidy Office. I'd make the same commitment but I'm a bit scared that I wouldn't see it through...

  9. Just wanted to stop in and wish everyone a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

I'm most grateful for the many family gatherings we were able to attend this year and I'm looking forward to going and visiting more family and friends in 2013. I also want to get my life more organized. Hopefully looking forward to that as well.

  11. Rachel, happy new year! I love your tradition of giving thanks. In my case I'm appreciating my precious family and friends. Don't know where I'd be without them.

Hope 2013 is a brilliant one for everyone here.

  12. Kaelee, thanks for the wishes!

Family gatherings can be fabulous, can't they? And yes, I want to be more organised too! Maybe I should make it a resolution this year...

Hope 2013 has reached you in Canada now (I'm dreadful at time conversions) and that it's wonderful already. :)

  13. Annie, family and friends are the essence of life. (And we're including the family dogs in that group, naturally.)

Hope your 2013 is brilliant too!

  14. Oh, Rach, I just love the New Year with all of it's promise and possibility!

Like everyone else, I'm very thankful for family and friends, and I'll throw good health in there too. 2012 was my year of positive thinking which was wonderfully empowering so am hoping to take that same attitude into 2013. I'm looking forward to the coming year being one of opportunity and potential. What about you -- what are you looking forward to?

    Happy New Year everyone!

  15. Hi Rachel ~ It has been 2013 for about 48 minutes now. Not sure what time it is down under. I have to look up time zones tomorrow and see how many there are in Australia. I'm just assuming that New Zealand has a different one.

  16. So it looks like I am 18 hours behind you in time. Hawaii still has the new year coming.

  18. Michelle, it sounds like your year of positive thinking worked well. I think you'll do well with it into 2013 too!

I'm looking forward to a couple of trips away in 2013. One of which will be to the RWA conference in Fremantle! Yay!

  19. Kaelee, good investigating to find the time zone differences. Yep, NZ has a different time zone - can cause complications when Barb De Leo and I are arranging our skype sessions, but she's pretty cluey about it, luckily. :)
