Toy Boy!
The Sequel!
by Sharon Archer
The lid is off gadget box two so I’m sharing a selection in a photographic tour!
And they came into the house Two by Two! After all, if one is good, surely more is better!
This is a device for re-setting little ink-jet cartridges so you can use every drop of ink in the container! I’ve no idea how it works but it makes my budget-chromosome super happy.
A USB stick and antenna that enable a computer to work as a television. We got this for the trip around Australia on the motorbike. The trip was awesome – alas the computer/television was not. Glenn tweaked and tweaked and tweaked some more but it never worked.
The PDA! Very old now but an excellent gadget for many years. The keyboard was just the bee’s knees! I lusted after this!
A low-tech gadget and just what every up-and-coming golfer needs - a golf ball monogrammer. Surely it has to help your golf swing!
And of course, each of these gadget comes with its own cord! Naturally each cord has different plugs so no cord can be used for multiple devices. Is there a plural noun for electrical leads – I’m thinking of coining one – a spaghetti of leads!
Any thoughts on the collective noun for leads? Or even a collective noun for gadgets?
I'm giving away another copy of THE MAN BEHIND THE BADGE to celebrate - the paperback edition of the book has sold out on the Mills & Boon Australia website! Other editions are still available from other sites (links on my website) and the e-Book is still available from Mills & Boon Australia.

Man, Sharon, there are a LOT of gadgets at your house!!! I think that bowl of leads looks like a 'cornucopia of leads' -- as well as a very neat and tidy 'spaghetti of leads'! Are they breeding in there, do you think?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on TMBTB selling out. I'm SO looking forward to reading my copy!
And I thought we had a bunch of gadgets and cables. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win a copy of your book.

Sharon, I swear all you have to do is make it black (or silver) and shiny, promise it will make some task better/easier/more fun and guys will be drooling to buy it - at least my hubby would be.
ReplyDeleteI've just finished reading "The Man Behind the Badge" after winning it on the last gadget post so don't include me again . And good luck to everyone else - it's a fab read, definitely worth winning.

A skein of leads? A slither? (they do look like snakes) A tangle? (how often does that happen?)
ReplyDeleteAs for a collective noun for gadgets, hmm...a gaggle (just for the alliteration)? A pod? A jack (for all trades)?
I think I might give up here. :-)
Sharon, I'm thinking that all that time your gadgets save you gets used up in keeping the cords separate and the gadgets free of dust...?
ReplyDeleteWhat about an oodle of cords? Makes me think of your spaghetti, and implies that we never have just one. :O)
Oh, Sharon, I had to giggle. I live in SUCH a low-tech household. A friend of mine said to me with complete amazement a few weeks ago, "You don't even own a microwave!" It's true, I don't. And it took me years to buy a digital camera. I must have been the last person in Australia getting films developed. Actually that's one gadget I'm really glad I bought - a definite improvement over film and so immediate. Not to mention I can take hundreds of photos and if they're no good, delete the lot without paying for someone to develop them. Personally I go for a chaos of cords!
ReplyDeleteWow, gadget central, Sharon! My hubby is a musician, so there are leads crawling all over his studio. They give me the heebie-jeebies. I know you can bundle leads up in a thing called a loom, so maybe Kylie's onto something by calling it a skein of leads.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is one big bowl full of cords. I'd call it a confusion of cords as I cannot remember which lead plugs into my cell phone and which lead plugs into my husband's phone. At least half the time I grab the wrong one to begin with.
ReplyDeleteAnd, Emily, this is only a selection of gadgets... mmm, perhaps there's a collective noun right there! LOL I do like cornucopia - it has a rich delicious sound to it!
ReplyDelete:)
Sharon
Hye, Cathy! You are in the draw!
ReplyDeleteI think the thing with gadgets is that when you stop to *look* how many you have, it's a bit of a shock!
;)
Sharon
Ah, yes, Anita, the lure of the shiny black/sliver and guaranteed to make things X, Y or Z! Irresistible!
ReplyDeleteI'm so thrilled you enjoyed Tom and Kayla's story! Thank you!
:)
Sharon
Kylie, a very nice group of collective nouns! A skein really suits those cords that have been looped up tidily... while a tangle is perfect for those just chucked in the box! so we obviously need a collection of collective nouns to cover all possibilities!
ReplyDelete:)
Sharon
Dust! Rachel... is that a four-letter word?! ;) Seriously, dust is real problems with all those cords and gadgets... I had to give some of them a good swipe with a cloth to make them respectable enough to photograph! LOL
ReplyDeleteI like an oodle... makes me think of noodles!
:)
Sharon
Ya, for your digital camera, Anna! I love ours... and... naturally we have two! I was such a reluctant convert to this technology but I have embraced it now and there'll be no going back!
ReplyDeleteHey, I really like a chaos!
We're getting some excellent collective nouns here!
Vanessa, I bet your hubby's music studio is full of leads! And there's a way of organising them in a "loom"? How cool is that! It's does work well with Kylie's skein!
ReplyDelete:)
Sharon
Kaelee, a "confusion" is another great word!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know exactly what you mean about grabbing the wrong cord! For a short while my dh and I had phones that took the same charger... soooo much easier! But then he was *forced* (ahem) to upgrade!
LOL

Hi Sharon,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on The Man Behind The Badge being sold out!
It sounds like a very enjoyable read.
Sharon,
ReplyDeleteIt must be gadget city at your house! Glenn's obviously in his element buying all those cool goodies.
Congratulations on THE MAN BEHIND THE BADGE being sold out! Yay. I'm not surprised - it's a lovely, feel good story.
Sharon
ReplyDeleteFirstly huge congrats on the sell out of Man Behind The Badge and no wonder it is an awesome book I soo loved it.
As for the gadgets I love them LOL and the leads I wish all our leads were at least neat and tidy like that we have a big basket and they are all just in there not tied up just in and if you are looking for one in particular the are all tangled LOL
Have Fun
Helen
Loved the complete list ;) Now I can rest easy knowing what were the remaining toys ;) LOL!
ReplyDeleteThanks for being so patient with us, Sharon! And congrats on the sellout!!!!
Sharon, we have a cupboard full of cords which I dub the pot luck cupboard. I avoid said cupboard like the plague. Technophobe -- who me? Apparently I'm soooo text-based cos I still love pen and paper. :-) But hey, what's wrong with pen and paper?
ReplyDeleteWonderful news that The Man Behind the Badge has sold out! Congratulations!
Thanks, Nas!
ReplyDeleteI'm compelled to say that Tom and Kayla's story is sold out *only* on the Mills and Boon Australia website - it's still on the shelf in the shops DownUnder at the moment and available through The Book Depository and Amazon and... and...
But you know, I could resist that teensy ego-trip to say I've had a "sell out"!
;)
Sharon
That should have been - I couldN'T resist that teensy ego-trip to say I've had a "sell out"!
ReplyDeletetsk, when the fingers are too quick on the post button!
LOL
Sharon
Annie, thank you for your lovely words on Tom and Kayla's story!
ReplyDeleteYep, it IS gadget city here! LOL
Thanks you, Helen! I'm thrilled to bits that you enjoyed Tom and Kayla's story!
ReplyDeleteLOL on your leads - you must have a "tangle"... or a "chaos"... or a "confusion"!
:)
Sharon
Ju, I have to confess it was great fun ransacking box 2 for more gadget pics!
ReplyDelete;)
Sharon (averting my eyes from box 3!)
Ah, Michelle! I love my pen and paper too! Us low-techies have to stick together!
ReplyDeleteErm... blushing a bit about the "sold out" thing! LOL It is just on the Mills and Boon website - there are plenty of other places where it's still available.
:D
Sharon
Sharon, I'm with Anna Campbell on this. I do have a microwave but onlyuse it to melt the butter! Gadgets and me don't mix.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your book selling out. A great result.
Sue MacKay
Sue, (and Anna!) I'm raising my eyebrows in quiet astonishment! I love my microwave! It's on a par with my normal oven for me for use... I sometimes cook whole meals in it, make gravy and sauces in it, even used to bake a chocolate cake in it! Got to say it's a no-go for roasts though... that "browning technique" just never did for me! It might looked browned but it's not *browned*!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the congrats on my *sell out*
;)
Sharon
TOY BOY SEQUEL WINNER!!
ReplyDeleteI have my fingers crossed that this will work because poor Blogger seems to have some kinks tonight! I tried to put it up on the front page and it wasn't happy and now it won't even let me sign in... which is why I'm here as "anonymous"!
Anyway, (drum roll) My winner, by incredible scientific selection, is CATHY SHOUSE!!
Cathy, can you email me on sharon (at) sharon-archer (dot) com and I'll get a copy of THE MAN BEHIND THE BADGE into the mail for you!
Thanks everyone for stopping in to chat gadgets!
:)
