Y'know, I had a friend whose cat was named Smooch? :-) Thanks Nikki, have emailed you. I forgot to say in my post that along with the wee ones came a cat, to be swiftly followed by a puppy - and as the kids grew and assortment of many, many, much-loved animals who joined our family. Yes, it truly was our home!Clare Scottnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2489168146200487747.post-21717004002888457292012-11-14T21:40:38.669+11:002012-11-14T21:40:38.669+11:00Na - I feel bereft for you that you can't have...Na - I feel bereft for you that you can't have any pets. I would be quite lost without something to curl up with. But yes, in the absence of the real thing there's always the unreal thing!

Clare - 'it was ours' LOVE that. In fact, just three days before Christmas. All our Christmases had come at once, and it was perfection - even without carpet, drapes, or nice belongings. We were poorer than poor, the house was old and drafty and decrepit - but it was ours, and it was the Most Magical Christmas EVER!Clare Scottnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2489168146200487747.post-34733433358616794632012-11-14T19:11:46.734+11:002012-11-14T19:11:46.734+11:00I love seeing animals featured in romances. Since I can't have them in real life currently, it's nice to imagine having one through the lives of the characters.Nahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02720440727711737600noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2489168146200487747.post-17895288841512128422012-11-12T11:17:37.851+11:002012-11-12T11:17:37.851+11:00Rach, those early family memories just never leave...Rach, those early family memories just never leave us, do they?

Mary - can I just say, that sounds like the perfect Christmas/New Year. Everyone free and welcome to be exactly who they are (even the feral-at-heart kids). I wonder how long it would take to recover from a Christmas marathon like that?

Catslady - yay! Cat for Christmas. When a pet is that hard won (and that hard thought about) I don't have a problem with it coinciding with Christmas. Hope you had that puss for many long, lovely years. And a special break at Hawaii sounds just perfect. Especially when it comes with the bonus meeting of a nice inlaw.Nikki Loganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12895929864616916672noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2489168146200487747.post-20845405112898054412012-11-12T04:03:52.704+11:002012-11-12T04:03:52.704+11:00It has to be when I was about 11 and I got a wild ...It has to be when I was about 11 and I got a wild barn cat for Christmas. I had begged for years for a pet and was totally surprised because my parents weren't really pet people. Another great experience was not officially during your time frame but right after, I got to meet my husband on R&R in Hawaii while he was stationed in Vietnam. His divorced father lived there and we had never met. We spent the first few days at a fancy hotel and then stayed with his dad for the next few. It was glorious!catsladyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06375770995988927860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2489168146200487747.post-48442957222077726672012-11-11T19:46:26.039+11:002012-11-11T19:46:26.039+11:00I need to go right out & find a zookeeper, a g...I need to go right out & find a zookeeper, a gorgeous French zookeeper preferably. Can you tell I loved the smooch?

My family is BIG on Christmas, which basically takes in New Years as well. It's not a gathering of the clans, but it certainly is tribal. We eat, drink, TALK and laugh. Sleep is at a minimum & the children become practically feral. It's a communal atmosphere with everyone jumping in to help. There are a LOT of us and it is just so much fun.Mary Prestonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02201076939557413255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2489168146200487747.post-56172737776916938672012-11-11T18:44:58.305+11:002012-11-11T18:44:58.305+11:00Aw, puppies!
