High Tea!

I'm just home from a gorgeous Romantic High Tea in Townsville with the North Queensland Romance Writers. It was a morning tea of gorgeous little morsels, pretty little cups and plates, and talking about books. Pretty much a perfect way to spend a morning.

The lovely Barbara Hannay was also there - you can see some of her books on the raffles table in the picture. I won the chocolate on the left (maybe a little hidden in this pic). Clearly, the raffle gods in Townsville knew me well. :)

Has anyone else been to a high tea? If so, what was it like? If not, what delicious little morsel would you like to find on a cake plate if you went to one?

  1. Rachel, that looks like such a lovely event! I love afternoon tea and I've been to a couple of high teas too. So far the best was at Claridges Hotel in London. Sigh. Stunning. But the main thing is always to do it with someone nice. My daughter once took me to an art themed high tea at the NGV in Melbourne and it was such fun. We spend the afternoon giggling.

    1. Annie, Claridges Hotel in London? I think I have something new for my bucket list! And, yes, I totally agree - the company makes all the difference!

  2. I love a good high tea, Rach!
ARRA runs a good one but I have to say I've been tp the Ritz a few times for high tea and its awesome with a cherry on top. You're serenaded with live piano music!!

    1. Amy, ARRA high teas always look so much fun! The Ritz has live piano music? Gosh, I think I need to try many more high teas to get the full experience!

  3. Isn't high tea simply the best, Rach? I did an ARRA high tea in Sydney when Sarah Wendell came to visit, and the things I remember best were the great conversation, followed by the amazing scones and the most gorgeous teas served in the prettiest china. I really must do a high tea again soon. It feels overdue.

    1. That sounds delightful, Michelle! If only you lived closer we could do one together. :)

  4. Gosh, Rachel, that looks like a fabulous High Tea. What more could an avid reader want or need. You had it all? I've only ever been to one "proper" High Tea and that was at The Kiosk in One Tree Hill, here in Auckland. They did an incredible job and it was truly delicious. Not sure what it did for my blood sugar though, LOL!

    1. Yvonne, I'm starting to think that it would be a great tradition to do a high tea in whichever city I'm visiting. Auckland would be great, and One Tree Hill would be a stunning spot to do it!

  5. That looks lovely Rachel. I've been to high tea at The Ritz in London and more recently at the Queen Victoria building in Sydney. While I love high tea,
I do prefer it when there's a good balance between sweet and savoury otherwise it gets a bit sickly for even this sweet tooth!

    1. The Ritz, Kandy? Another London high tea lover! Seems I'm behind the times. Oh, the Queen Victoria building would be a lovely setting. Must add that to my list for the next Sydney visit.

  6. What a fun event! Glad you had a good time :)

I've done quote a few high teas back home - my favourites were the one at the Windsor and the one in the old Myer ballroom. They're so much fun and I'm a terrible sweet tooth ;)

    1. I've stayed at the Windsor but didn't do high tea. We had breakfast in the room where the high teas are held, though, and it was a gorgeous place. Must add high tea there to the bucket list!

I do love High Teas and have been to a few and they are so much fun one of them I met Sarah Wendell from Smart Bitches and then a couple with ARRA one with Julia Quinn and one with Anne Gracie and fingers crossed there will be one in Melbourne when we get there for #ARRC2017 :) I wish I could have gotten up to Townsville

    Have Fun

    1. Oooh, you've been to quite a few, Helen! I love that it's become a thing. You would have loved Townsville - we'll just have to make sure we get to one together one day!

  8. I've been to many High Teas in the UK, but only to a few in Australia. The High teas at Abercrombie House near Bathurst were equally as good as any UK ones. Absolutely delicious. Oceans of tea and plenty of food. Plus it was wonderful being able to wander around the historic house and explore the gardens. Enjoyed them so much it's on our must-do list from now on when we travel there from Q'ld each year.
